Elizabeth leaned into him, tucking her face into his neck. The whole way there, Ethan and Callen were looking at her like she was about to go off the reservation.
Oh, and with good reason.
She was.
Vivian’s death was her thirteenth reason to lose her shit, and it was taking everything she had not to do something drastic, or break down and weep.
LikeWEEP weep.
Like full-blown mental breakdown.
What wouldn’t she give to go back to DC before coming here and forget thatDamascusand this mess ever existed?
“I missed you, too, my love,” she admitted. “I’d like to say I was off having fun, but it’s been anything but that.”
Where is everyone else?” he asked, kissing her on the forehead to offer her some reassurance.
Tenderness.
Love.
She told him.
“They dropped me off with Jet and the remains. Is Tony around?” she asked.
Chris was staring into her eyes. Because they’d‘grown up’together, he was honest and ignored her question. They had more pressing matters at hand.
“I don’t like the look I’m seeing,” he admitted.
She said nothing.
“Bethe, we’ve been through too much for me to not know you’re about to blow. I’ve seen this before. Talk to me.”
She set him free and began pacing angrily.
In the privacy of the morgue elevator, she raged, taking that moment to let someone help her carry the burden.
“He touched my family,” she stated. “I can’t let that go. I know what it’s doing to me, Christopher, but I can’t stop it. I’m going to cross the lines, and I’ve been trying not to.”
He made her stop.
“You’ve crossed them before.”
Had anyone else said that to her, she would have lost her shit, but Chris had always been the one who comforted her, and talked her down.
So, she leaned into that relationship, and she was honest.
“It was too easy the last time,” she admitted. “Killing Javier Hughes was way too easy. Yeah, he was about to stab Gene with a corkscrew, but it was enjoyable.”
He knew where the dilemma was.
“You should talk to someone.”
She stopped him.
“If I talk to someone, like say Ethan, or Callie, they are obligated to report me to Kate. They are obligated to pull my badge, and that will be a far worse fate for me. I’m balancing on a razor’s edge here, and I don’t want to enjoy taking him apart, but I’m really going to enjoy it.”
He leaned against the wall.
