It wasn’t easy loving a strong, independent woman. He’d even wanted someone following her, but then there was the worry that would point her out.

A Fed following her was a neon arrow pointed right at her.

“No one knows about us being a couple, so you’re likely safe, but just be careful. If it feels off, get the fuck out of there. Hell! Shoot anyone you get that creepy feeling over. I’ll hide the body after the fact for you. It worked for your last chief.”

That amused her.

“I mean, some girls get flowers. I get body removal. How hot is that?” she joked.

God!

He missed her so much.

“How long is this going to go on?” she asked. “Because I might have to take things into my hands.”

He lifted a brow.

“Like what kind of‘things’?” he asked. “The only things I like in your hands are my‘things’.”

She grinned.

“Phone…video sex?” she asked.

Well, that had promise.

Immediately, he grinned.

That wasn’t what he’d been thinking she was going to say, mostly because he was waiting for her to tell him that she was going to move on if he wasn’t around.

Thankfully, that wasn’t it.

“I’m game for that. A guy has to do what a guy has to do when he can’t get to his girl. Hopefully, this won’t last much longer,” he admitted.

She was honest.

“I was over by the council house earlier. My dad is making the Blackhawks jump through hoops over some shit.”

Oh, boy.

“What now?” he asked, not liking that. Before, the man was easier on them. Once Rayna said she was sleeping, and pretty much living with him, he began being a dick.

To punish them.

Before he hated only Wyler.

Now, he was an equal opportunity offender. Someone was a feisty old Native man.

Clearly.

She told him what the conversation had been regarding the burial.

“He isn’t having it, and on top of that, he told me to avoid you and the Blackhawks. Apparently, you’re trouble. God, but I do love trouble.”

He snorted.

“Tell me about it. I miss getting into trouble with you. I’ve meditated so much that my dick is confused.”

She laughed.
