And right.
Only, on top of her looking like hell, and chasing a crazy, this worried him too. He’d just been telling Gene that he felt like Elizabeth was slipping through his fingers, and that scared the shit out of him.
He should be by her side, but his side quest to be Shaman was monopolizing him.
“For that, Lyzee, my love, I’m sorry.”
She shrugged.
What was she going to say?
He’d made a choice, and she’d respect it. Hopefully, one day, if she made one, they’d do the same.
“Don’t stress it. Just keep profiling when I send you things. At some point, this nut is going to stop playing chase and take me on.”
Ethan was to the point.
“Are you going to ask them for help?” he inquired, pretty sure she knew who he was talking about.
Elizabeth hesitated.
Then, she was honest.
“No. They have enough on their plate, EJ. Von Donore is a problem, and like my problem, they have to handle that. Even if they cut the head off of this snake, there’s two more heads toBlackStone.”
He sighed.
“Lyzee.”
She stopped him.
“EJ, we’re all balancing a lot. One ball in the air that’s not expected, and everything comes crashing down. If I need them, I’ll call them. So far, he’s playing with me. Just make sure you, Callen, Chris, and Gene are safe where you are. If you’re around me, you’re in more danger.”
He let her have this.
For now.
“Okay, my love. I’m profiling. What is going on with Von Donore?” he asked.
“There is movement in the organization. We got word from the CIA that someone on a transport, owned by a shell company thatBlackStonecontrols, landed in the UK. He’s finally making a move.”
Ethan was curious.
“And is clean-up done on the estate?” he asked.
She nodded.
“We had a team go in and clean up after Gamble. The bodies are moved, but the horses are still there. I haven’t been able to transport them out yet. Someone is taking care of them. Poe arranged it.”
When she pulled her hair up, and it sat in a messy bun on the top of her head, it sent those curls of lust to his belly.
There was the only woman he’d ever loved—other than his mother.
God.
Ethan missed her so much.
Oh, and he wasn’t the only one. Truth be told, the four men were floundering without her.
