Maura had to get her away from anywhere she could have access to poison.
“Oh, hey! I hope you can help me,” she said, stopping where she was to look at the arrangements.
The woman didn’t move.
“What are you looking for?” she asked.
She was to the point.
“My sister just had a baby, and I need some flowers, but she’s married to this hoity toity dude, who is really picky. I need an arrangement, but I need it to beEXPENSIVE.”
The woman smiled.
“I actually specialize in exotic flowers that are pretty exclusive to my shop,” she said, getting up and heading around the counter.
Maura checked her out.
She was older, but she was in damn good shape. It was clear that this mercenary liked to stay fit.
Well, good.
She liked a challenge.
“Can you show me some things?” she asked, as the woman directed her to the case against the wall.
As she did, Maura moved with her.
Then, it happened.
It must have been the com in her ear, that normally, no one saw, because someone went twitchy on her.
Suzette swung, and Maura had just enough time to duck under her arm and punch her in the gut.
The woman went backward and grabbed a vase to throw it at her. Maura blocked it with her arm, and the woman came in hot, throwing punches like her life depended on it.
As she landed one on Maura’s chest, she hurt her hand.
“Vest,” Maura said. “MATE, alert!” she stated, as she blocked an elbow, and got shoved into some flowers as the door swung in.
That’s when the women went to run back around the counter. Only, Elizabeth was on her, and she grabbed her by the back of the hair, and slammed her face off the floor three times, until the woman went out.
Cold.
Jagger helped his wife up from the pile of carnations she was lying in before checking to make sure she was okay.
“What the hell?” Rogue asked.
Maura told him.
“She had to have spotted my com,” she said.
Zayn was locking the door as Rogue was behind the woman’s counter.
“Or she saw the looped footage and you not appearing on it,” he stated. “She was monitoring.”
Well, shit.
That was the problem with blockers. If you were paying attention, you absolutely were going to notice something off.
