And she had no remorse.
As Gene stood there, he put his arm around her, and they watched the man die in the worst possible way they could make him.
When the screaming stopped, and all that was left was his contorted face in the flames, Gene went there.
“Anyone want to get something to eat?” he asked. “I could go for some pancakes. Maybe waffles. I’d like some with some fruit on top. Whipped cream too.”
Elizabeth shrugged.
“I mean, I could eat. I’d kill for a chocolate shake and some really salty fries to dip in it.”
Zayn was right there.
“Did someone say breakfast?” he asked, giggling, as he kissed Elizabeth on the temple. “You did good, Boo,” he reassured.
Did she?
She wasn’t sure.
“Baby is kinda hungry,” Maura said, running her hand over her barely visible baby bump. “Woman can’t live on granola bars alone or angst. I’m down for a strawberry shake. Oh, and pickles. Maybe some chili.”
Jagger stared at her.
“Oh, shit. Not the food cravings already. I thought I had another few months, at least.”
She smiled at him.
And Jagger knew the truth.
Fuck it.
He’d dip pickles in her shake any day of the week.
“I’m in,” he said. “In fact, I’ll buy. Mikey O’ likes a midnight diner with greasy food when his Doll is hungry. I’ll even feed Zayn. A bonfire always makes me feel…cheery.”
Rogue just laughed.
They were all batshit insane, but they were family, and he loved each of the nuts.
“What about this?” he asked, pointing at the mess on fire.
She knew.
“Burn the building to the ground. It’s not arson if we don’t claim it,” she said. “Callen will play dumb. It’s not our fault if someone dies in a fire here in our dilapidated property. Damn those vagrants. Like I said, their ID is never coming to light. Chris will make sure of that. The family that breaks the law together, stays together,” she joked.
That sounded about right.
Together, they walked out, and Zayn blew the place up, like the other places. That was four explosions, all surroundingDamascus.
If the cops didn’t figure out they were connected, that wasn’t their problem.
“I love a good fire,” Zayn said, as the building went up as they were driving away. “It does the heart good.”
Yeah, well, when in doubt, send them to Hell.
That was Maura’s motto. Then again, she might make it fuck the patriarchy. Jagger did look hot in his cargo pants.
As they drove away, Elizabeth was going to have one last meal before she did what needed to be done.
