Only, he knew better than anyone that the storm wouldn’t stay gone forever. If anything, Ethan was predictable. He’d get in his head again, and bad shit would go down.

Bet.

On.

It.

Before long, he’d be hyperfocused on Elizabeth being in danger, and it would start back up again.

“Too bad we missed it,” Callen said, as he cuddled Chris just like the other man was doing with Ethan.

Ethan owned it.

“I’m a horrible man, and I had that coming,” he admitted, sleepily.

Chris leaned over and kissed him on the mouth.

“Thank God.”

It made Ethan laugh a little.

“Thank you, Christopher,” he said, finding his hand and holding it as he basked in the afterglow.

Chris reassured him.

“Never a problem. Take a nap. We’ll make sure you’re peaceful,” he admitted.

Still, Ethan fought it.

Oh, he was exhausted, but he wanted to work to help Elizabeth.

Chris saw him going to protest.

“We’ll wake you up. I haven’t even gotten any of the forensics. Nap. We’ll be right here with you.”

That seemed to work.

Closing his eyes, he put his faith in his partners, like he knew he needed to do. Later, he suspected, he was going to live the worst days of his life.

How did he know?

His gut told him.

And Ethan Blackhawk’s gut was rarely wrong.

Hell was about to open up on his family, and they were all going to be helpless to stop it.
