So, her sneaking into DC was officially over.
Not only was the clock ticking on the case, but it was also ticking for her life being on the line.
As the car came to a stop after the vicious spin, no one was moving. Raphael had hit his head, and there was blood on his temple. Beside her, Uriel had been thrown off of her body, and he also had blood on his face.
Both men were breathing, though.
In the front seat, Jet was dead, the hole in the side of his head splattering his brains across the windshield.
As for herself, Elizabeth didn’t feel like she had any broken bones. Her shoulder was singing in pain, but she was alive.
Being buckled in had saved her, along with Uriel using his bigger body to cushion hers.
Hearing feet coming down the embankment, self-preservation kicked in, and she unbuckled her seatbelt. Before she could worry about anything else, she had to get into a better position.
Her Marines taught her that.
Vantage mattered.
Crawling over Uriel, he still didn’t move, and that told her that he’d hit his head pretty damn hard. It wasn’t like she was that light that he wouldn’t wake from her clawing her way over him.
Out the window, she slipped, moving into the shadows of the car and weeds in the ravine.
That’s when she heard it.
Russian.
Oh, and unluckily for the person who just destroyed a life and tried to take hers, she spoke it. So, she listened, trying to figure out what the hell just went on.
Yeah, she suspected she knew, but confirmation mattered.
Before she killed this woman.
Because every dog had its day, and this dog was about to be put down.
‘Finally, her luck ran out, Comrade. The Deputy Director has been taken out. I’m going to make sure that they are all dead, and we’ve gotten our revenge. Thankfully, whoever put that information on the Dark Web saved us a lot of trouble. Get ready to escape the US. We’re going home to Mother Russia. Mission complete. I’ll see you later.’
Oh, well, she had news for the Russian spy.
She wasn’t going home.
Oh, and one other thing.
The spider wasn’t dead.
It was a nice try, but someone didn’t succeed, much like her friends before her. Instead, the spider was just ripped out of her web.
Now, this woman, who had been trying to kill her more than once, had another problem on her hands.
She.
Was.
Angry.
As she was tucked into the bramble, the woman moved around the vehicle to the side, where both of Elizabeth’s security were out cold.
That’s when she realized the target wasNOTacquired. In fact, she was missing.
