“You think so? You think after you do what you came here to do that she’s going to fuck with you? That’s my sister. We are a lot tighter than you, remember? You abandoned the family, decided to stay here. and try to separate yourself from the rest of us like you were too good or some shit. What makes you better than Kut? You do the same fucking thing!” Karmine accused.

“You want to know the fucking difference!” I sniped at him. “I don’t go around intentionally setting out to hurt the people I care about. I don’t hide behind my own fucked-up experiences and make excuses as to why I treat a mothafucka the way that I do! I’m not better than anybody, but I damned sure ain’t shit like Kutlass Roth. You think following in his footsteps make you a man or you superior to me? Think again, mothafucka.”

“So why you sitting here talking instead of just doing what you want to do?”

“I know what the fuck you did. I know you gave that reporter the story on Harbor. I came to confront you about it, see if you wanted to talk your way out of it. I see right now you just another lost cause.” I waved the gun toward him.

Karmine acted quickly, his hand going for his gun. Before he could even brush the surface, I sent a shot through his chest.

“Agh!” He fell back into the sofa cushions, hand covering his wound as his face filled with anguish. “You deserve everything you fucking get.” He managed to gasp before his breathing labored and he struggled for every inhale.

“Yeah, I know,” I mumbled, lowering the gun and searching the house quickly to make sure nothing was missed.

After my sweep came up clean, I left the premises and drove back home to the estate. My mindset was in no way prepared to deal with anything else after the events that had transpired. I needed a whole bottle at this point to get my shit together. Knowing what awaited me back home was overwhelming a nigga enough.

Ledge

All the eventsof the day had caught up to a nigga. When I whipped my truck into the driveway of our home, I killed the engine and checked on the kids in the back seat before giving Chevy my attention. She yawned, and I could tell the day had been just as eventful for her. An entire birthday party took place above our heads, kids were having the time of their fucking lives, and we were down below laying a mothafucka down permanently.

“You okay?” she questioned, worry filling her gorgeous ass face.

Staring off ahead, I shook my head while my hand rested on the spot on my face between my nose and mouth, covering it.

“I don’t know. Nigga got a lot on his mind.”

“Tell me about it. Can you believe all that shit with Harbor and her sister? Between her and Ivana? I don’t know how weain’t somewhere bonding that girl out. You know I would have snapped like a fucking twig,” Chevy ranted.

“I found out who hit the apartment,” I muttered, relaxing in my seat.

“Who was it?” Chevy swirled in my direction.

“Kemper Evans,” I revealed, and her face lost all expression.

“What? Why would he do something like that?” Chevy queried, breath stalling while the color drained from her face.

“Same shit I want to know. Nigga suspicious for a reason, Chev. What you say to that?” I was testing her.

“We went on a few dates, Ledge. It wasn’t nothing serious or no shit like that.”

“Well, I just found out that this nigga’s father is also my father. So I need to know what the fuck he’s doing here.”

“Your… What… Are you sure?” Chevy asked, disbelief filling the curiosity in her eyes.

“The last thing I am is fucking stupid, Chevy. This nigga broke into my shit looking for something. What you tell him about me, hmm?” I questioned, getting in her face.

“Nothing. You know me better than that,” she countered, and I peered down my nose at her.

I was tripping. I knew she was solid. If this nigga was sniffing around, he already knew something. I didn’t have to give him anything, because he was already searching for it.

“I’m bugging, ma. This ain’t on you. I’m going to help you get the kids in the house, and then I got some shit to handle before I lay it down.” Unloading the car, I did just that, and she met me at the door once we got them tucked in.

Chevy rested against the frame, arms hugging herself while she stared out at me.

“I don’t have a good feeling about any of this, Ledge.” She pouted.

“It’s up to the big God if it’s my time or not.” I planted a soft kiss on her lips.

Her hand fell on the back of my neck, and she reeled me in closer. Our tongues did a dance before I nudged away from her gently and searched her deep, crayon-brown eyes.
