Knowing he must have a ton of things to do that don’t involve me directly, and my mouth creases when I see him frown.

Creases into a smile.

“Stay?” he asks in disbelief. “That’s one question you never need to ask me, Rose Maxwell. Not as long as I draw breath,” he nearly growls, moving over to me and hooking an arm behind my waist.

He pulls me to him, winding me a little, but wanting to make his point, which I can already feel against me.

“Your place is here now, with me,” he says.

“Men of Valor MC will help your dad, I’ll help your dad, but you’re not going anyplace as far as I’m concerned. Got it?” he asks, lowering his voice and making me purr when his hands move over my back, down to his favorite parts of me.

My chest hard against his, I can feel both our hearts pounding again.

I should be worried about my dad. I should be worried about what’s gonna happen with the rest of my future, but with Thorn as my guide I know there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Not even for a second.

“I have some calls to make, maybe even a few errands to run, Rose. But you’ll be by my side? That’s my only question to you. Ever,” he says, reminding me of everything he’s already said.

Everything our bodies have already told each other without so many words.

I nod and look down, embarrassed. Still getting used to a man like Thorn even giving me the time of day let alone being stuck on me.

And that’s what we both are now, I know it.

“You okay?” he asks, his eyes burning into mine. Mirroring back the feelings I have for him.

The feelings I know we have for each other.

“I could be better,” I hear myself saying wistfully, cocking a brow and biting my lip.

A low groan of yearning mixed with impatience comes from Thorn, and his eyes shift from me to the window.

Wanting, but knowing what needs to be done right now to let all that happen.

“Just let me set things right, with your dad. With my club and those other men.”

“Then…” he murmurs. Promising.

And I know exactly just what he means by then.

Maybe what I wished I’d done with him last night after all.

“What can I do to help?” I ask, my hand reaching for him, probably not helping by stroking the front of his pants without realizing it.

“You just stay by me, and we’ll do just fine,” he laughs softly.

“I’ll start by sending these business names over to friends I have, people I know who can help.”

Feeling a knot in my stomach again over my dad and what he’s got himself into, Thorn’s the first to make sure I know where my dad stands.

“I’ve seen smarter men do a whole lot of stupid things, Rose,” he says, looking down at me.

“We can fix this, but I need to act fast. The Men of Valor MC need to do what they do best,” he adds.

Thorn leads me into a huge front room, almost identical to his sitting room but one I can tell he uses as his office straight away.

He sits me down opposite his huge desk, and instead of fussing with papers or computers, he lifts the receiver on his office phone and starts dialing.

Auto-dial at first, and then a few subsequent calls.

I recognize him speaking to Cason, the club President first. And after that, it’s my guess as good as any.

But it sounds like the local corruption has done this more than just once, which makes me feel just a little better for my dad.

“…Same modus operandi, Cason.” I hear Thorn relaying down the phone.

“Federal tax investigator though this time, roped into setting up phony companies offshore… little more sophisticated than usual… Yeah, he’s got a few first quarter returns already drafted but not submitted. I’ll get you all the real names, no problem…” he drawls, making some notes to himself before hanging up.

“You want some coffee, something to eat?” Thorn asks me finally, moving to get up after making some more calls from his cell.

Contacts I just know are for the Men of Valor, but not necessarily members. Friends of Thorn he who can help when needed.

I feel my mouth making an ‘O’ shape, feeling like a fish out of water.

“I’ll fix that. I’ll make us both something,” I tell him, dying to feel useful apart from having him look over at me and make me feel way hotter than I should be.

Chapter Ten

Thorn

Cason being Cason has a two-pronged approach, getting all the information I have before taking the matter at hand a step further with his own, with the club’s contacts.

Me, I have some non-MC friends who can help. People I used to work with.

The kind of people who don’t have names or addresses, but can give me anyone else’s and a whole lot more if I need it.
