“Can’t be that serious if he was picking you up from an inn. What was it, the Heather something?” he asks.
The van suddenly jolts, and there are a few panicked noises from the travelers. The Alpha next to me wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, and he hits the spot in front of him rather hard.
“Sorry about that, we’re almost at the farm.”
“Well, that just deducted a star from my review and completely wiped his tip,” the Alpha next to me says. I don’t know his name and I don’t care to.
I fold my arms across my chest and do my best to not look at him. His knuckles touch my hip as he clicks his seatbelt in place.
The van finally stops and Lain is incredibly quick to cut the engine and stand, his hands on the ceiling of the vehicle as he ducks his head.
“Alright, everyone has their wristband?” he says and everyone holds up the red wristbands he gave them except me. “Perfect. This gives you entry to the farm. I’ll be walking about ifyou need a photographer, but other than that, the staff here are the experts.”
He swings open the door and when I stand, the Alpha next to me is ridiculously close. The moment my feet hit gravel, Lain is grabbing my wrist and tugging me to the side.
“Are you okay? Was he being a cunt?”
“I’m fine, and sort of. I mean he was being kind of aggressive with the conversation, but I’m fine,” I say, and Lain is already letting me go and making his way toward the Alpha.
Shit.
I’m chasing after him and I grab the back of his sweater. He could easily keep walking. I’m not strong enough to actually hold him back.
“Lain, wait,” I say with a wobble to my voice.
It must be the thing that makes him turn around, because he’s suddenly wrapping his arms around me and picking me up into a tight hug. I can’t help but to wrap my arms right back around him. He feels safe and warm andmine. Isn’t that fucking horrifying?
Though, it’s not enough to make me pull away, instead my nose is pressed against his neck and I swear I can get a hint of his scent, but maybe I’m imagining it again, maybe I want him too badly.
“I’m fine. I promise,” I assure him, and he kisses my temple.
“I’ll make sure that someone else sits there, or I can have Greer come pick you up.”
I pull back to look at his face and brush my hand through his soft hair. I’ve never felt more protected or special than the way Greer and Lain make me feel and I’m not sure how I’m supposed to give this up and go back to my life in Chicago. Not that there’s much of a life waiting for me anyway.
Instead of dwelling on it, I kiss him.
“Now, do you want to see the cute coos? Or do you want to go back in the van and make out the whole time?” he asks, and I can tell he’s serious.
“Let’s go see the coos,” I say and he laughs at my pronunciation.
He holds my hand as we walk through the main entrance and he takes me over to the area where most of the other guests are.
“We should take some pictures for your new profile while we’re here,” I tell him, sliding out my phone.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Well, I’ve been thinking about what would do well for you and honestly, I think it’s just pictures of you in your kilt at different locations you take your tours.”
“So you’re saying I’m devilishly handsome and that showing my calves will be enough to get people to book earlier?”
“Basically,” I reply, and Lain shakes his head.
“We can go inside of the pen, let’s just go find Graham,” he says and I nearly stop in my tracks.
“Wait, Graham owns this place?”
“No, that would be Jaime. Wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t met him. He tends to stay on the farm and keep to himself. Graham just works here doing God knows what.”
