“You wanted it to be just the two of you?” Aster asks me quietly.
“I never imagined her having a whole plethora of mates, no,” I reply. “I’m not possessive or anything, and the other night worked fine.”
It was quite honestly the single most erotic experience of my life, and I thank my lucky stars it hasn’t disappeared from my memory like a lot of other recent events.
“I don’t even know what’s up with me,” I tell him honestly. My feelings are all too messy to make sense of.
“Then maybe we start with just the two of you. The rest of us can join later.”
I stare at Aster, and he meets my eyes, projecting that same sense of calm. He couldn’t be more different from that wild thing Reva brought to my door all those months ago.
“You’d do that?” I ask, glancing around the room to see that Torin and Jack have stopped squabbling for long enough to listen in.
And just like that, my nerves fizzle to nothing.
Reva traveled across the kingdom and put herself at risk to find me. Sure, she was coming after her skin too, but one of the few things I recall from the past few weeks is the assurance that she was bullheaded about coming after me. She even joined my brother’s crew, and I know exactly how intimidating they can seem to an outsider.
If Reva can do all of that because she cares about me, then I can get over myself to help her get her seal back.
“It might be a good idea for you to start things off, Kit,” Torin says. “Less overwhelming than all three of us pawing at her.”
“I appreciate it,” I say with a grateful nod before holding my hand out. “I s’pose it’s time for that potion.”
Chapter 20
Reva
Istep into a room carpeted with flickering candlelight. They’re not the magic kind either; they’re real candles. There must be dozens of them, and they are bathing the room in golden light.
My breath catches at the sight of Kit, standing alone in the centre of the bedroom, his hands clasped in front of him. His chestnut hair is glinting in the candlelight, making him look like a fiery angel, and he’s dressed in a cream shirt and loose grey woolen trousers. It seems he’s learning some tricks from his brother, as his shirt is unbuttoned already and he looks like a man just as likely to raid a library as seduce you behind the stacks.
A look I like very much.
There’s always been something studious about Kit. He’s an adventurer who decided to hang up his backpack and dagger for the moment, but could step back into those shoes at any time.
And right now, it feels like the adventure he’s ready to dive into is one where he makes me come.
Over and over.
Removing my skin from where I have it draped over my shoulders, I place it carefully onto the floor and then, thinking better of it, shift it to the bed.
“There are too many candles, aren’t there?” Kit says, extinguishing a couple of them before reaching for my hand. “Aster was going for a romantic look, but the last thing we want is any part of us catching light.”
My lips quirk at the thought of my gentle witch trying to make this romantic for me. “What a sweetheart.”
“We thought we’d start slowly,” Kit says, his voice low and smooth. “Just you and me. And then we can invite the others in.”
His tone settles my nerves, and I take a breath, squeezing his hand. “Not quite.” I gesture with my thumb over my shoulder to indicate Finch, where he’s leaning against the doorframe, taking in the scene without a word.
“Finch? What are you—?” He stops, shakes his head, and starts again. “I didn’t know you’d be here.”
“He’s observing,” I say.
“Supervising,” Finch replies wryly, and I grin over my shoulder at him.
“That’s what he’s calling it, anyway.”
“I’m here to make sure you don’t all forget what you’re doing here,” Finch replies, earning himself a snort from Kit as I try to smother my grin.
