Kilah Bennett-Jones - February 8th, 2030 - A Few Hours Later

“Miles! Soph! Let’s go, kiddos!” Kylie yells from the bottom of the stairs. “We have to be on the I-10 by ten!”

“What does that even mean?” Miley asked as she trotted down the stairs with Sophia not far behind her. She shrugged as they reached us.

“Ugh, I always forget that y’all were born two days ago,” Kylie jokes, and I chuckle, shaking my head. “We are watchingJohnson Family Vacationas soon as we get to the campsite tonight.”

“Um, I’ll be nine in a few weeks, Mama KB,” Miley replied, with her little hand on her hip. “I was bornmorethan two days ago.”

“You know what I mean, Miss Ma’am,” She replies, pulling her in for a tight hug.

She giggles as Kylie smothers her in kisses. When she lets her go, she pulls Sophia in for the same smothering of cheek kisses, to which she reacts the same way as Miley. I smile at my three favorite girls. They were so silly, but they brought me so much joy. I was so excited to be going on this trip with them. I justknewthat it was going to be a good time.

When Kylie suggested that we take a weekend road trip, I thought that it would be a great idea. What I didn't expect was for her to rent a luxury RV for us to have the ultimate glamping experience. Soon, a weekend vacation turned into a week-long one, and we had to write letters for the girls to give to their teachers yesterday to let them know that they wouldn’t be back until next week. Fortunately, since their school was a hybrid one, they could do their schoolwork online as we travelled. This was one of the many reasons why I loved the school they attended so much.

“Okay, girls, do y’all have everything?” I ask. They nod excitedly. “Well, let’s head on out to the RV. Remember, no roaming around while we’re in motion, but when we stop, you’re free to explore as much as you like. Get it?”

“Got it!” they replied.

“Good,” I nodded before ushering them out the door.

After a few more checks around the house to make sure we’d turned off and unplugged anything we needed to, we packed up the RV and were on the road to see what adventure awaited us. Did we have a plan for where we were going? No, but we did know that we wanted to head West. Kylie had made sure to map out the touristy and more welcoming places we could stop. Since this was our first time doing anything like this, we wanted to be as safe as possible.

The first few hours of traveling were filled with excitement all around, but by the time we hit hour four, the girls were tired and hungry, so we decided to stop at a grocery store and get dinner for tonight, plus a few more groceries for the fridge since we’d forgotten to do so before leaving BR. Yes, we had plenty of snacks, but no ingredients to make meals.

“Okay, girls, let’s get in and out so we can make it to our campsite before it gets dark,” I say, and they nod before following me out into the cool evening air. I made sure they had their jackets, and after Kylie had locked the RV up, we made our way inside the grocery store.

Since it was a bit after three, the store wasn’t that packed, so we were able to get what we needed and get out in no time. Miley and Sophia managed to convince us to let them have pizza tonight after they spotted that there was a pizza place in the store. We agreed because neither one of us was up for cooking tonight anyway. So, we got two large pizzas. One Hawaiian and one meat lovers. I still had no idea where Miley got her love for pineapple on pizza from, but when she first found out that Kylie loved Hawaiian pizza as much as she did, it was always those two sharing one while Sophia and I enjoyed our meat lovers.

It took us exactly twenty minutes to reach our first campsite, and we wasted no time settling in for the night before we dove into our dinner. As promised, Kylie put on the classic that wasJohnson Family Vacation, and the girlslovedit. I think they giggled for ten minutes straight after the scene with the alligator in the bed. They thought it was so funny and ridiculous. Kylie and I shared a look of accomplishment that we’d gotten them to enjoy something that we did when we were their age.

Many slices of pizza, snacks, and two movies later, the girls were dozing off on the couch as Kylie and I snuggled on the love seat a couple of feet away. We let them sleep until the movie we were watching was over, and then we got them up and helped them get ready for bed. Once they were settled, we got to work cleaning up the mess we’d made before locking up and heading to the master bedroom.

As much as we would’ve loved to shower together, the bathroom was not that big, and the shower damn sure wasn’t. So, we took turns cleaning up before finally retiring to the king-sized bed. There may have been a bit of messing around for an hour or so before we finally drifted off to sleep.

“Mama.”

My eyes fluttered open to see Miley and Sophia standing at the edge of the bed, waiting for us to wake up. Kylie stirred beside me but continued to snore softly. I decided to let her sleep since she’d been driving all day yesterday. I’d volunteered, but she told me that she was fine. I was going to take some of the hours today, though, no matter how much she protested.

“Hey, babies. How’d y’all sleep?” I ask, sitting up and stretching. They come over and give me hugs.

“We’re hungry,” Sophia says, and Miley nods.

“Well, let’s go fix breakfast, hm?” I suggest, and they nod excitedly. “Okay, y’all go pull out the ingredients while I freshen up a bit. I’ll be out in like ten minutes.”

“Okay, Mommy!”

They scurried off toward the other side of the RV as I lay back down beside Kylie. I wrapped my arm around her and leaned in to kiss her cheek softly. She groaned and stirred but eventually woke up after a few more kisses. She smiled up at me before pulling me into her arms.

“Morning, beautiful,” she greeted me as we shared soft kisses. “The girls must be up already, huh?”

“You know they are,” I chuckle. “I’m going to go make us breakfast, and then after we eat, we can start our day of adventuring. I’m curious to know where we’re going next.”

“Actually,” she says, sitting up. I follow suit. “I was wondering if you’d be okay with us stopping by to visit Anya for a bit. It’s been a while since Sophia got to see her, and since we’re not too far from where she is, I figured we’d stop by. I also wanted to introduce y’all.”

I nod quickly, cupping her face in my hand. After kissing her softly, I look deep into her eyes. “Of course it’s okay, Kyls,” I assure her. “I know how much Soph must miss her, how much you must miss her. We can definitely stop by to see her.”

“Thank you, my love,” she replies, pulling me in for a hug. “I love you so much.”
