I chuckle.

“He’s not going to learn to be a man being fussed over like that, you know.”

“Raising kids sounds a lot tougher than my job.”And horrid.

“Yeah,” he shakes his head.“Ally wants another one.”

I scratch under my collar, feeling like I might be coming down with hives.A natural reaction to being around yet another married man with kids.

When I was at Harvard, I had five best friends.Four remain.Jack died after marrying his girlfriend Sandy. She fooled us all.Turns out she was a gold digger.Worse, she was a murderer.

At least, we believe so.

We can’t prove it, and she’s been missing since his funeral all those years ago.

Sebastian, Mason, Colt and Drew remain my best friends despite breaking the vow we made after his death.Toonlymarry for true love.

The last part is yet to be seen...except, yes, fine, I like Emily, Lexi, Riley and Gemma, but I’m privately skeptical.Even as Sebastian and Emily recently welcomed their baby boy, Noah, into the world recently.Colt and Riley’s bundle of joy is due very soon.

It leaves me as the single bachelor in our group, and I must admit having Dereck and Damon, Drew’s cousin and stepbrother, hanging around a little more is very welcome.

Work keeps me extremely busy, and the boys and I still keep in touch frequently, but our weekend shenanigans at the Obsidian Club are all but over.

Understandably.

It’s not like any spouse would be okay with her man hanging out at such a place, even if the membership is an ungodly price.

It’s a sex club.

I wonder if Colt is going to close it down or step away from the club. It’s not his major source of income—the golf courses are—along with his substantial inheritance.Riley, his fiancée, has been surprisingly pragmatic about the club, but I’ve seen enough loved-up happy couples turn toxic in my time as a divorce attorney.

So we will see once the honeymoon period is over. Then again, she did move her life here from Australia to be with Colt. And she is carrying his child.

I’m cynical.

How could I not be?After Jack was murdered, it reinforced my desire to go into family law.Focusing on divorce and the dissolution of marriages was an outlet for my frustration at not being able to prove Sandy guilty of Jack’s murder.

Never say never.

As of last week, I’ve had my eyes on her. After all these years.I paid a private investigator to seek her out and find out what they can.

It will take time.

Until I get anything valuable, I will keep my secret to myself. The others know nothing.

“Does adding another rug rat to the family really make a difference?”I ask Freddie.

“It does to my damn sleep schedule.”He grumbles as the doors ping open, and we stride down the hall of the executive offices.

“Morning, Mr.Sterling.”Kathy, my PA, greets me as she does each morning.

“Anything urgent?”I ask, despite it being Monday and she probably hasn’t finished her first cup of coffee.

“No.Mrs.Blackmore will be here at ten.Did you want tea and coffee?”She picks up a mug, proving me wrong, and takes a big sip.

I let out a sigh.

Part of me wanted to turn away this client, but Courtney Blackmore is a tier one client and has already paid the five-figure retainer just to step foot inside my offices. Her husband is the high-profile tech finance titan, Adam Blackmore, who is worth multiple nine figures.Their separation has already been in the media, and Courtney didn’t waste any time announcing I was representing her.
