“There,” she waved.
I jumped as a shirt was put on me, one that had me nearly laughing out loud. “Do I look like a fan of Prince?’
“Hey, he deserves respect, boy.” She started humming the tune to Purple Rain.
I seriously wondered if she was batshit crazy and had an insane urge to pull my hair out.
“Please don’t do that. Your hair is gorgeous. You’re a natural ginger in both forms. That’s a rarity. Of course, I am not at all interested in you sexually, you understand. That doesn’t mean I can’t admire a gorgeous creature. Being my age, I’ve seen many beautiful men. You remind me so much of your cousin Laikyn. She, too, is a beauty. You are both gingers. Again, I am not interested in her that way either. Her mate would go all dom Alpha on me, and then I’d have to spank him and he’d...” She turned to look at me. “Are you okay? You look a little pale.’
I swallowed. “Are you talking about spanking Kellen Styles?’
“Not like really spanking him. I mean, that would just be silly. He’s a grown man. Aha, found it.’
I rubbed my temples. Following the Fey woman’s train of thought—or trains, more than likely, because this female appeared to have more than one going through her mind at all times—was enough to give me a headache. At the last minute, I put up a stone wall so she wouldn’t read my thoughts. I’d gotten lax around the humans I dealt with daily.
“Jenna, are you back? I told you to stay and rest up more.’
If my wolf wasn’t already falling for the injured wolf, the man in me would have had some serious fantasies about the gorgeous woman sashaying in through the wall. I looked behind the newcomer, and yes, I confirmed she had indeed entered through the wall. I raised my hand. “Are we in Neatherland, or wherever Peter Pan was from?’
“Do you not know your fairytales? Peter Pan was from Neverland,” the newcomer said. Her midnight-black hair shone so dark I saw hints of blue in its depths, and her blue eyes rivaled my wolf’s. As I looked closer, I noticed her smile held a hint of sadness.
“My apologies. I am at a loss here.” I moved closer to LeeLee.
Her whisper-soft voice soothed me. “Jennaveve, have you not explained to him that he is not in Kansas anymore?’
The small Fey placed more things on a table that I swore hadn’t been there minutes before. “You’d think he’d figure it out. You are in the Fey Realm. It’s parallel to the human one, sort of. It’s a different world that I can travel between as can my kind.’
I, who’d just started to feel less dizzy, let my ass hit the ground. It was either that or toss my cookies. “Damn, warn a man before you up and remove him from one world to another.” My voice came out as a hoarse whisper. Automatically, my hand went out to LeeLee, feeling for her steady breathing.
“Now that we have that out of the way, I’m going to need a few more of my people to help. I’m sorry to say I’m a bit whipped. Otherwise, I could have done the healing without a problem.” Jenna brushed her hands on her thighs. Her tone was a little less sure than I liked.
“Do you think you can help her?’
“What is your name?” The dark-haired beauty asked, her voice deep and raspy, reminding me of a certain Hollywood star.
“Slater O’Neil.” I cocked my head to the side.
“Ah, they are here.” Jenna rushed to the wall. “Keep the squeezing down to a minimum, ladies. We have a sick wolf here.’
“Ignore Jennaveve. She’s in a mood for some reason. I’m Talia.” She bent down to eye level, brushing her hand over the blood-matted fur, leaving behind pristine red with silver-tipped fur in her wake. “Now, that should make her feel marginally better.’
Unable to stop myself, I ran my fingers through the softness. “How did you do that?” I asked, looking up at Talia.
Delicate shoulders rose and fell. “Simple. I willed it, and it was so. Magic, if you will. However, we can’t just will her to become human, so get that right out of your head.” She ruffled my hair.
I was sure I’d fallen into a rabbit hole or some shit like that or was still asleep. Yeah, maybe that was it. No way was I surrounded by women too beautiful for words, who could run their hands over things and make them perfect. Nor could they take me to another world. Fuck me running. I was never taking drugs if this was what they did to people.
“You are not hallucinating, nor are you high, young man.” Jenna’s laughing voice broke into my thoughts.
I woke to strange voices. My body ached, but blessedly not as badly as if I’d been run over by a Mack truck—which I’d been at one time. Of course, it hadn’t been that nice trucker’s fault. It had been the rogue pack chasing me that I blamed. The nice trucker man had actually saved my life. To this day, I wish I had known his name, but he’d left me at a vet’s office and kept going on his trip. Something about his haul needing to be on time. When I’d woken up with a needle sticking out of my paw, panichad nearly made me freak out. The nice assistant had soothed me through the night.
Now, I opened one eye to see if I was in a similar situation. My pulse spiked at the unfamiliar surroundings that looked nothing like a clinic for animals or humans. Walls of every color that actually looked like they pulsed with life were on one side, and a stone fireplace that looked straight out of a castle was in front of me. Beneath me was a stack of fur—fake fur, if my nose was to be believed.
“Well, it’s about time, sleepy head. Now, let’s see what we have to work with, shall we?” A woman with long dark hair and turquoise eyes touched my head. I wanted to jerk away at the intrusion, but the soothing presence eased inside my mind. I felt as if this woman were my friend. Although I’d never met her, she had an aura that exuded trust.
Time fell away while we held hands, walking through the familiar forest surrounding my homeland. I stared up at the fairy.
“Are you my Fairy Godmother?” I smiled, wishing I had my fairy’s pretty eyes.
