“We were giving her room and time. Someone thought it a good idea to do this.” Lucas shot his brother a glare.

I pulled my phone out and dialed Kellen’s number. From the sound of the other man’s voice, I was pretty sure I’d interrupted something intimate. Which was a good thing with the way both hybrid men were acting. I hoped like hell Kellen and Laikyn smelled of each other.

The fact that they hadn’t answered why they’d been in her apartment while she’d been away still needed to be answered. Kellen would take over when he got there, and I knew for a fact the alpha wouldn’t allow anyone to take away what he thought of as his.

“You realize my best friend is with Kellen, along with Bodhi, right?” Lyric whispered, even though the others could hear.

I nodded, not understanding where she was going with her train of thought.

Her pointy elbow nailed me in the gut. “I love Syn, but she is more protective of those she loves than I am of my Harley, Pixie. Kellen is at the top of the list of people she loves, with me right below him. I think she may have had a talk with you a time ortwo. Imagine the two of them coming in here. When you finish that, imagine Bodhi thinking Syn was being disrespected.”

I really needed to make a chart of her thought process. I understood where she was going with Syn and Kellen, but Bodhi threw me for a loop.

“Bodhi has loved Syn since the day he came to the pack as a new wolf. Syn thinks He’s too good for her, so she ignores it. One day, he’ll catch her, but he will still protect her with his life. Those two across from us.” Lyric stared at the twins, deep in their own conversation. “They will be considered a threat. You may think Kellen is going to be the meanest one to enter, but believe me, if Bodhi thinks Syn is in danger, He’s the one you want to watch out for.”

“Duly noted, darlin’.” I kissed the side of her neck, inhaling the sweet strawberry scent.

Chapter Three

Iloved the dazed look in Laikyn’s green eyes. I especially wanted to see her lying on my bed, devoid of all clothes, while I pleasured her to distraction. The untimely call from Rowan made me want to throw my phone away. Yet the other man told me he’d spoken to the doctors at Laikyn’s apartment and then sent me the information he’d gotten from them.

Son of a bitch. Vampires? I wasn’t sure what to think about that situation or the men. Hell, I had no idea what their abilities were. What I did know for a fact was that I wasn’t about to take my mate where the other men were.

“I want you and Syn to stay here with Bodhi.” I stopped as Laikyn shook her head vigorously.

“Not gonna happen unless you plan to chain me to the bed.” Fire lit her eyes.

Damn, I fantasized about doing just that. “Woman, be reasonable.” I stepped back before she lured me back to her gorgeous body. The fact I didn’t need to bend in half to claim that sassy mouth had me wanting to do it over and over again. Her womanly curves fit perfectly with my harder frame. We were made for one another. If only she’d listen to me, it would be exactly as I’d envisioned it.

She smiled as if she’d read my mind. “I can be really bendable when I wanna be.” Her tiny pink tongue came out, wetting her plump lips.

My dick jerked through the opening of my jeans, where she’d worked her hand inside, before the call interrupted us. Mytempting little mate looked down, gave a husky chuckle that had my eyes crossing, then trailed her hand over me, cupping my balls.

“Did I mention that I promise not to make you sorry, and to listen to you?”

My body responded to her words, even as my brain screamed for me to say no. The sight of her perfect porcelain skin against my rough denim was an erotic sight to behold. “Fine,” I growled.

Laikyn gave me a none-too-gentle squeeze, remembering I liked it rough. “I’ll be a good girl.”

“Get dressed and let’s go before I change my mind.”

She bent, slipping the silk bra back on before the tight tank top, acting as if she was ready. I stared at the gorgeous thing in front of me in a pair of tight black leggings that reached her calves, and a spandex tank top that molded to her breasts, showing off every luscious curve. I unbuttoned my flannel top, leaving me in a black undershirt. “Put this on. I don’t want those asshats to see what’s mine.”

A blush stole up her neck into her cheeks, but she shrugged into my top. “Kellen, we are going to have to talk about...” Laikyn stopped as I covered her lips with mine.

“Later. Right now, we deal with the threat against you, then you and I’ll talk. At home.” My home, which would be ours if I had anything to say about it. Jeezus, she looked adorable in my shirt, the thing hung down to mid-thigh, covering her ass. Her hands shook as they worked the buttons into the holes.

“Let me grab my purse.” She lifted the strap over her neck, adjusted it across her chest, and then she waited for me.

Yeah, she was it for me. I’d wipe out an entire pack of vamp-shifters if they thought to take my mate from me.

Syn and Bodhi stared at us when we entered the lobby, tension in every line of my sister’s frame. I pulled her next to me. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. Where are we going?” Syn looked over at Laikyn.

I decided to let it go as Bodhi cleaned up what appeared to be breakfast. “Have you eaten, Lake?”

Laikyn’s stomach growled. “We were going to call down for room service.”
