The end.
As if!
Epilogue 1
CAIN
Isat in my cell, rolling my eyes at the pretentious laughter that poured down the stairs from whatever the fuck they were doing up there.
“It didn’t have to be this way,”Morrigan had said during her one and only visit since we returned to Andonia.“This was a product of your own doing. I want you to remember that. I hope the thought festers as you rot down here, waiting for the day that I finally return to kill you.”
Did she think that I feared death? Did she think that I was scared of what would happen? Please… She was just agirl. I had facedmonsters far worse than her.
I kicked the pebbles at my feet, looking for anything to do to keep my mind busy as I planned how I would get out of here. The obsidian chains were definitely a problem. They were impossible to break on my own, not with the small amount of power that I had, but I would find a way.
If I could have fed from her one last time, maybe I would be able to?—
“That won’t be a problem anymore,” a voice said from within the cell.
I snapped around to the corner in the far left, shadowed in darkness. “Who’s there?”
A dark chuckle reverberated throughout the room, but I couldn’tseeanyone nearby. The shadows seemed to stretch and morph, inching closer toward me with a familiarity I hadn’t felt in quite a long time.
“Father…” I whispered under my breath. I sensed him now, but it was so far away. “Are you… Did you wake?”
“Not in the way that you think,” he answered. His voice held a slight disturbance to it, like a whisper and a growl at the same time. “You failed me, son.”
“Youfailed to make me aware that you had anotherson,” I snapped back.
Suddenly, the shadows burst through the room and wrapped around my throat. They slammed my head into the stone wall as they lifted me slowly.
“You let that little girl slip through your fingers,” he snarled. “Do you know what she has become?”
I choked against the darkness strangling me as I tried to speak. “Y-Yes.”
“She will be ourruin.” The shadows clenched further, completely cutting off my airway. “But I have decided to give you another chance.”
His darkness released, dropping me to the ground. And then, the doors to my cell opened. My eyes widened in shock when I saw who entered, keys in hand. “What are you doing?—”
“He can’t hear you, son,” my father whispered. “This was as much as I coulddo for you.”
He approached, his eyes swimming in darkness that covered every inch of color in his irises. When he unlocked the chains on my wrists and ankles, I could only gape at him. Will he even remember this?
“I need you to do as I say,” my father said somewhere behind me. “Too many of my sons have disappointed me. They areweak. And that bitch has them wrapped around her pathetic little finger. What have I always taught you?”
“Love makes you weak,” I answered.
Another chuckle boomed through the room, before my liberator fell to the floor, unconscious.
“Then,” my father whispered. “let us begin, shall we?”
Epilogue 2
ROSINA
Iwas careful not to draw his attention when I arrived.
I couldn’t risk reacting too quickly and anything happening to my baby as a result. So when I saw Dez on that bridge, I watched him for a moment. Dez held him like there was a fuse tied around his blanket, unsure of whether to cradle him in his arms or hold him with outstretched hands.Dez.I saw such great things for him, and it truthfully broke my heart toinclude him in my curse.
