When he entered me, it wasn’t slow or gentle. That’s not what I needed. He thrust his hips, and my mouth parted on a scream derived from pure pleasure, but he covered my mouth with his hand to silence it. He pushed in and out, and all the tenderness had left his body. Now? He was claiming me. I tightened my legs around his hips, wanting him as deep as possible, and couldn’t stop my eyes from rolling back in pleasure.

He slid his hand away, pressing it into the pillow beside my head, and lowered his lips to my ear. “Say it, Morrigan,” he panted. “Say you’re mine.”

“I’m yours,” I moaned before biting my lip as hard as I could to keep my volume low.

Wrapping a hand around the back of his neck, I pulled him back down, stealing his mouth in another desperate kiss. I refused to let go. I wouldn’t release him until our lips were swollen and bruised.

You’re mine,I thought.

Yours.

My other hand landed on his back, and I dug my nails into his skin, dragging them down as Tristan released a feral groan. Malakai stole twenty cuts from me, and I would take them in Tristan’s pleasureandpain. Suddenly, his shadows stretched out again and slid up my body until they wrapped around my wrists, pinning me to the bed.

Then, I did something without even trying to. The heat in my core poured into my veins, and I felt my blood on fire as flames began to peel away from my skin. They licked his arms, leaving behind small, artificial wounds that healed almost instantly. And when Tristan grunted, it was one filled with carnal pleasure.

My flames tangled with his shadows, the tether burning brighter than ever, and I could barely breathe anymore.

I felt another orgasm rising as his movements became more erratic, losing the even flow he had before. Sensing it, Tristan let go of my lips and covered them with his hand.

“Come for me,” he demanded, and my back arched as my release rippled through me. Liquid flames poured from my veins, surrounding Tristan as his shadows covered both of our bodies. “Mine,” he whispered again as his hips bucked forward, and his forehead dropped onto mine. While his warmth filled me, his shadows slowly released, and his entire body came down onto me.

We both lay there catching our breaths, not bothering to speak for a few minutes. Naturally, I found myself playing with his hair, twirling the black strands, and Tristan kneaded my hips with his fingers. I hadn’t felt so content since…

My body went frigid.

What am I going to do? How do I even explain myself?

I became so lost in my own guilt and panic that I didn’t notice Tristan had lifted his head from my chest.

Once I explain who he is, I think they’ll understand.

Tristan released a crude laugh and moved off of me. I internally cursed myself as I hadconvenientlyforgotten that he would have heard all of that.

“Tristan!” I yelled when he slid off of the bed, searching for his pants. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean… This is… It’s confusing for me!”

“You don’t evenknow…” He puffed out a frustrated breath and ran his hands over his face as he paced my room.

“You know how I feel about them,” I reminded him. “They’ll understand! Once we tell them who you are, what weareto each other, they’ll?—”

“Theyknowwho I am!” he yelled back at me, the power in his voice enough to shift the air around us entirely. The lust and desire morphed into something more hostile… angry. While his eyes still remained light— one blue and one almost white—I could still see the darkness beginning to swirl in them.

An uncomfortable thought settled in my mind, planting itself like a poisonous weed that I didn’t want to pluck.I’ve seen that darkness before…

“Yes. You have,” he answered, calmer this time.

I gazed into his eyes, watching the shadows still seeping from his markings in my peripheral vision. It felt like he was telling me something without actually saying the words, and the implications that rose in my mind… “No,” I mumbled, suddenly feeling a little sick.

All of the anger drained from Tristan’s face, forming a solemn frown. “I need to tell you something.”

As my breaths came in faster, I sat up and scooted back against the headboard. “No, Tristan. That’s not… That’s not possible…” My stomach leapt into my throat, forming a thick lump that made me want to puke. When he stepped toward me, I reached out a hand to stop him. “Please tell me it’s not true.”

He looked nervous as he gave me a wary nod and sat on the side of the bed. “I’m not Ryuk’s only son,” he admitted, and it took everything in me to hold down the bile that burned the back of my throat. “Who truly knows how many children he had? But Kaiden… Heisone of them. Both heandDez were aware of my birth. One of them is the reason I’m even here to begin with.”

Ryuk is Kaiden’s father…

Which meant that Tristan was his?—

Oh, Gods… What the fuck have I done?
