“Okay, fine. What’s your question?”

“Have you already slept with Caleb?”

Megan knew better than to try to lie to Abbie’s face. “Fine. Yes.”

“Ha! Iknew it!” Abbie fist pumped the air.

Megan couldn’t stop her smile. “You’re ridiculous.”

“Maybe, but the fact remains: I was right!”

Megan just rolled her eyes.

“Okay, anyway. Never mind that. Are you going to sleep with him this week? Or try to?”

Megan started her car on and put the air conditioning to high. “No, of course not. Tucker’s going to be at the house, not to mention the entire rest of the bridal party. That’d be insane.”

Abbie looked confused. “But don’t you like him?”

“Why would that matter?” It had never made a difference before. Megan didn’t see why it should now. It wasn’t as if Caleb lived in Starfire Lake. His life was elsewhere. Her life was here.

“If you like him, you should tell him! And then jump his bones.” Abbie laughed after she whispered that last part.

“Wow, Derek being away for so long is really getting to you, isn’t it?” Megan liked Abbie’s boyfriend. She’d even encouraged Abbie to go on a weekend sex romp with him after Abbie asked for advice.

“You have no idea. But this isn’t about me. Why won’t you– Wait. Are you afraid that your crush will get deeper?”

Megan blushed. Abbie didn’t know the half of it. That night last month had made her realize that she could very easily fall right back in love with him. Caleb was just as thoughtful, bold, funny, attentive, and supportive as he’d been eight years ago.

Except he’d grown into an even more beautiful man, with the body to match – more filled out and toned than he’d been at twenty-three. She’d been nineteen the first time they’d slept together and full of insecurity, but Caleb had been sweet and attentive to such a degree that anyone else she’d slept with since had been a massive disappointment.

If Megan didn’t put a stop to the conversation, Abbie was likely to figure it all out. “That’s ridiculous. And I have to drive now so I have to get off the phone.”

“Okay, okay. Let me say one thing.”

Megan braced herself.

“Follow your heart, Megs.”
