My jaw tightened.

Shepherd continued calmly.

Flick made a tiny broken sound behind me.

“What did he take?” Rook demanded.

Lightning split the sky.

And for half a second?—

I saw Shepherd standing farther up the ridge between the trees.

Watching us.
