Fence.

Barn.

Nothing.

Then Flick suddenly froze against me.

Completely froze.

“Hersh…”

Her voice sounded wrong.

I looked down fast.

She was staring toward the upstairs bedroom window.

My bedroom window.

And slowly?—

through the rain-streaked glass?—

a single light turned on by itself.

BLAZE

The upstairs light glowed through the storm.

Every instinct inside me screamed.

Not fear.

Danger.

Wrong.

“Shepherd,” I said quietly.

Wolf was already moving.

“Trigger—inside!”

The entire porch exploded into motion.

Trigger hit the front door first, shoving inside with his rifle raised.

The sheriff and his deputies followed fast.

I grabbed Flick’s hand and pulled her tight against my side as we moved.

“Stay with me.”

“I am,” she breathed instantly.
