But soon enough Gloria was on the case. "Momma, Aunt Stella is flirting again."
"Why is that child such a tattle tale?" Lara's sister asked, but Rico was ready to high-five that little redhead for ratting out her aunt.
Once the kids were done eating, they washed up in the river. That turned into Sammy and Gloria trying to catch fish with their hands.
"Look what they're doing," DJ said disapprovingly.
"Scaring the fish," Mitch said.
The girls had makeshift fishing poles that Mr. Jasper made for them, but they had abandoned them. It wasn't long before DJ and Riley abandoned theirs too. The girls' way of fishing looked like it was more fun than regular fishing, so they joined in. Mr. Jasper encouraged their pointless splashing while everyone else took pictures and video. In the end no fish were harmed.
"We couldn't catch any," Sammy reported to her dad.
"Really? Maybe next time," Mitch told her while he dried her off a little with a towel he had brought from the car.
Sammy came over to Rico and looked up at him with a pout. "I didn't catch you any fish either. I will next time, OK?"
"It's a deal," Rico told her.
"It's watermelon time," Wyatt announced. "Riley, go and pick up the watermelon and bring it over here."
The big watermelon had been put in the river to cool. Following his orders, Riley went to get it. The saner adults yelled "No!" and even DJ shook his head. Rico only got ready to shoot some video.
Wyatt relented. "OK. I guess you better not."
"But I want to," Riley said.
"It's too heavy. All you kids bring it over here together," Wyatt told them.
"I'll help you guys," Sam said. Glaring at Wyatt as he passed him, Sam went to go and prevent a disaster. He brought over the watermelon with the kids trying to trip him up as they "helped" him carry it.
"You turned that into a whole production, didn't you?" Lara told Wyatt.
"I do what I can," Wyatt said smugly. "Now let's all get messy eating this watermelon."
That only led to more finger licking from Stella. That girl needed to stock up on wet naps.
In the end, Rico felt exhausted from constantly glaring at Mitch and Stella. Things were wrapping up. They helped Mr. Jasper get all his stuff back to his cottage, then they said their goodbyes by their cars.
"I appreciate you guys watching Sammy. Whenever you need babysitting, just let me know," Mitch said to Wyatt, Sam, and Lara.
"Tomorrow," Wyatt said right away.
"You're quick on the draw," Rico told him.
"I've wanted to plan a little getaway for me and Sam. He has the day off tomorrow, so I thought we could go on a romantic drive, explore the countryside." Wyatt looked over at Sam and smiled at him with love in his eyes. Sam answered that look with one of his own, and they both smiled at each other.
They looked so happy and in love, Rico wanted to knock their heads together. He probably wouldn't feel that way if Stella wasn't hovering around, ready to pounce on Mitch.
"OK, tomorrow is good," Mitch said. He looked at Lara to see if she wanted in on that.
Lara shook her head. "Gloria is going to be with her dad tomorrow, and Stella and I are going to do some shopping with my friends from Ashbury."
"Some other time then," Mitch said.
"For sure," she told him.
When they called the kids over, Wyatt told them about the plan for tomorrow. Hearing the news, Riley stepped up to Mitch.
