“That’s so hot. Do you have to go to the Clubhouse? You could stay here and read to me all day.”
He bent down and wrapped the discarded towel around me, covering the temptation. “Yes, but if you hurry up and get ready, I can hurry up and come home,” he said, urging me to get ready.
Ten minutes later, Banshee walked me up to Clara and Zeus’ house. We kissed our goodbye. Our bodies fused together as if they weren’t ready to be pulled apart, even if it was for a couple hours.
“Hurry home,” I said when we broke apart.
I knocked on the door before walking in, Banshee was already striding down the driveway. Clara was in the kitchen putting dishes in the dishwasher when I walked in.
“Hey, do you need help?”
She smiled, shutting the door and shaking her head. “I just finished, and little miss is asleep upstairs. Come sit with me. Do you want anything?”
I grabbed a bottle of water for both of us from the fridge and sat down on the couch opposite of Clara. It was insane how beautiful she looked after just having a baby. I wondered if Banshee wanted kids. It was something I would ask him tonight when he got home.
“So what’s new? Has Flame removed his head from his ass yet?”
I shook my head, swallowing the lump in my throat at hearing my brother’s name.
“He’ll come around. And in the mean-time we’ll keep you busy. Billie should be here any minute and then we’ll do something to keep your mind off stupid men.” Clara tried to change the subject, and I appreciated it.
An hour later, we were all on the couch, Lilly cradled in my arms. A knock on the door had us all looking at each other silently asking if any of us was expecting anyone. Billie got up motioning Clara to sit back down.
“Hey, ladies.” A scared looking prospect, I think his name was Flick, walked into the living room.
“What’s up, Flick?” Clara asked, taking on her role as queen of the Reaper’s Rebels.
Flick gave a fake smile that didn’t fool any of us. “Nothing much. Zeus asked me to stay with you guys until the Elites get back.”
We all went on alert, sitting straighter as if we all felt the tension of Flick’s lie. I may not have been in the Reaper’s Rebels long, but I’d been in a biker gang long enough to know when shit was going down.
“Flick, tell me what’s going on.” Clara stood up, her fists on her hips showing she wasn’t taking shit from Flick, or anyone else for that matter.
“Listen, they will be here any minute. They left as soon as they called me to come over here. Don’t make me go against Zeus’ order. Just keep doing what you guys were doing, and pretend I’m not even here. They’ll be back soon.”
He looked so uncomfortable I almost felt sorry for him, but I also wanted Clara to grill him more, put more pressure on him, until he gave in and told us what was happening. I was nosey and I wanted to know what the hell was going on.
“Go get something to drink,” Clara told him, letting him off the hook. I could see the strain on her face, and I knew she wanted to know what was going on as much as I did. She just had better control on her emotions.
The tension in the house was palpable. Clara took Lilly from me and paced the living room. None of us talked, all of us in our own world. When the Reaper’s Rebels’ Elite finally walked in, we all sprang to our respective biker.
“What’s going on?” I whispered into Banshee’s neck. He was stiff against me, making my anxiety rise even higher. Even with his arms around me I could feel the anger radiating off of him.
“Cletus was killed,” Zeus announced taking Lilly from Clara.
We all jerked at the news. My mouth opened but no sound came out. Banshee held me tighter after Zeus’ announcement.
“What happened?” Billie asked in a hushed tone.
Zeus’ eyes met Banshee’s for a brief second before flittering away. My spine went straight, knowing they were keeping something from us. And me in particular.
“What?” I asked, looking at Banshee, not letting him squirm away.
“Let’s talk about this at home,” he answered not meeting my eyes.
“No, why don’t we talk about it now. Zeus?” I swung around needing to know what was happening and not wanting to wait.
Zeus cuddled his daughter as he looked at me. His expression filled with worry and pity. “We need to know if your brother would retaliate against us because you’re here. There’s also been a lot of bad drugs floating through Vegas, killing a lot of people. We know the Outsiders are pissed at us. We just want to have all the information we can before we take action.”
