“Sure.”
“Fuck you, Flame. I saw those assholes abuse Mom, too. You think I’d let someone do that to me? I’m smarter than that.”
“I used to think you were.”
I wanted to rage at him some more, but I decided to take the high road. I wasn’t going to get him to change his mind by yelling at him. I hugged him, before sniffing the air.
“Hi, to you too. Pancakes.” I ran into the house after smacking a kiss on his cheek.
I was at the counter shoveling a pancake in my mouth when Flame walked in. “What, does he not feed you?” He eyed me wearily.
I rolled my eyes, putting another pancake on my plate and sitting at the table like a proper young lady. “Stop being such an asshole. Banshee feeds me. I just missed your pancakes, that’s all. I missed you too, and you’d know that if you would’ve answered your phone.”
“Then stop scarfing them down, you’ll get sick. I can make more if you missed them so much. I missed you, too, and I’m sorry, I never should’ve ignored you. Please forgive me.”
He was right. I was nervous, which I never thought I’d feel around my brother. He practically raised me. He got me my first box of tampons for god’s sake. I didn’t like the flittering in my stomach, and wondered if I would get sick.
“I did miss you,” I whispered.
Flame glared at his plate not eating, and I realized this was going to take longer than I thought. So much for getting back before Banshee woke up.
