“Fin, where are you?”
Finley pushed me away, zipping her coveralls back up. Her eyes went wide with nervous energy.
“What the fuck, Finley?” Flame screamed when he found us locked together.
I shielded Finley, not appreciating the tone Flame was taking with her.
“Flame, knock it off. I’m an adult,” she reprimanded him, her slim shoulders held back with pride.
I stayed in between her and Flame ready to ruin all the work Zeus had done to get the Outsiders as a chapter of the Reaper’s Rebels. And honestly, not giving a shit. I didn’t know who Flame was to Finley that he could make her so nervous, but I wasn’t going to allow him to talk to her like that again.
“You’re my little sister, and I catch you getting mauled by this big asshole. I don’t think so,” Flame retorted. His hands went to his waist as if he was a disappointed parent.
Zeus, Marshal, Hawk, and Doc sauntered in just as the show started to get heated up.
“What’s going on?” Zeus asked, when he noticed Flame glaring at us.
“I found mine,” I answered, running one hand over my beard while the other secured Finley to my side. Flame’s nostrils flared at the movement, or my words, I didn’t know.
Marshal laughed, while Zeus threw his head back to look at the ceiling as if he was trying to get patience from above.
“You found your what?” Finley asked, not bothering to give her brother any attention, it was all focused on me, and that’s where I wanted it to stay.
“Yeah, Banshee, what’d you find? Why don’t you explain it to the class?” Hawk taunted with humor in his eyes. I flipped him off, but turned toward Finley, not sure where to start.
“Pix, there’s something you should know about the Reaper’s Rebels. We party hard, but at a certain point we find the one. And when we find them that’s it for us. There’s no going back once we find them, and there isn’t going to be anyone else. You’re mine. I’ll protect you, and make you happy, but I can’t let you go now that I’ve found you.”
“Oh my god, let me guess, you’re going to tell me that you shift into some sort of animal too?” she asked.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Finley’s cheeks went past pink, to red this time.
Interesting.
“My sister is not yours, get your hands off her, and get the fuck out of here. The deals off. The Outsiders refuse the terms of becoming a chapter of Reaper’s Rebels.”
“Now, Flame.” Zeus went to him, but Flame was faster. He slammed his fist into my stomach.
I barely moved. Hell, I could’ve got out of the way, but I felt like he deserved at least one shot for the impure thoughts I was having about his sister.
“Get the fuck out!” Flame roared.
He went to slug me again, this time in the face, but my hand engulfed his.
“Don’t hurt him,” Finley pleaded, and I wasn’t sure who she was talking to.
“Come with me, Pixy.” I looked at her, still holding her brother’s hand. Needing to be near her. Needing to know everything about her.
Her pouting bottom lip sucked into her mouth as she glanced between me and her brother.
“She’s not going anywhere with you, and you best get your asses out of here,” Flamed roared, he was still captured in my hand.
“Come on, Pix,” I urged.
Her blue eyes filled up with tears and I was gutted, already knowing her answer. “Just leave, Hulk.”
I was about to argue with her, but Zeus placed his arm around my shoulder. “We’ll talk when you’ve calmed down,” he said to Flame.
I looked back one more time, but Finley was ignoring me. Her face studied the ground. My heart lurched and I felt physically sick when I got on my bike and roared off, spitting gravel as I went.
How the fuck could she not feel it?
How the fuck could she so easily separate from me, when I felt like I’d left my soul back at the Outsiders’ property?
