“Because they’re the ones who did it,” Bellamy accused. “Isn’t that right, red?”

The red remark was a knock to me having bright ginger orange hair. I adjusted my frames, ignoring the comment and continued to stare at the grass.

“So do I call you Auntie or do I call you Auntie-in-blood? Auntie-in-law? How does this work?” Bellamy pressed.

“Why are you asking my wife when I’m right here?” Trevor asked.

“Oh? I thought we agreed to ignore each other until all of this was confirmed?”

“Yet you paying attention to her?”

“Do you see anything?” Souxie asked as I slowly paced around the backyard. The triton walked around before bending to touch the grass. His connection to earth, natural green earth was weak at best but at least he attempted to look as if he knew what he was doing.

“I don’t smell anything,” Seth said as he stabbed the grass with the shovel.

“Dr. Holmes and his sister Wilhelmina Holmes hired an agent to take the body from Legacy Row the moment she was found,” I said as I began to circle the yard. Kneeling down, I touched the dark green grass and noticed some of the blades grew in the opposite direction in one particular spot. It was small enough to ignore but being from the Woodlands, we live and thrive in the natural resources of the earth including building homes within the ground or high above trees. I gripped the grass that was brushed in the opposite direction and felt the dampness of it.

“She’s right here,” I said before looking up. “Those who have shovels, please begin digging here.”

Stepping back, the men looked around at each other before Souxie yanked a shovel from Solomon King and decided to dig herself. Trevor came over, pulled it back from her, and handed it off to Seth. Bellamy kept his eyes on me while Namir stepped in, trying to turn his attention elsewhere. Trevor kept glancing at him before looking at me with furrowed brows, confused. I understood the subtle agitation. A boy who merely had questions after believing he knew everything there is to know and he seemed angry about it. How is Trevor Coleman his uncle when there is nothing remotely close to him being a Holmes and how did I become the very thing he is? Questions Trevor may not be able to answer but that is why Bellamy had his sights on me. He–––

“Uhhh excuse me?”

The woman with the sharp features and locs stepped in front of my face with a roll of her neck.

“So like…what? We find the body then what?” She popped. “How the fuck is this not breaking and entering? How are people not seeing us? Don’t you think the cops would be called and–––”

“I’m sorry, your name?”

“Asha,” she stated. “I’m not doing all of that first second year bullshit y'all do. It’s fake anyway.”

Adjusting my glasses, I blinked a few times, a bit put off by her brash demeanor as she watched the men dig.

“I just hope this leads to us finding Maggie,” she muttered. “I feel like we’re losing the fucking plot and doing all these sidequests. If this many people was gonna show up, we could have been looking for Maggie–––”

“Asha!?” Souxie snapped from the other side of me. “Shut the fuck up! Just SHUT THE FUCK UP! PLEASE! NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU!”

Even the digging stopped as the men looked at the two girls. The nymph covered her mouth with a silent gasp as worry began to seep into her eyes. I could hear the demonic laughter of the man with the blacked-out eyes echo in the backyard before he stepped back into the house to cut the lights on.

“What? You wanna find Maggie so you can continue to compare and complain about your life not being like hers?! You wanna continue to talk about Namir this and Namir that?! WE GET IT!” Souxie went on as she swiped at the fallen tears against her cheeks. Her eye color began to flicker, much like her male counterpart until they were completely gone, just pitch black. “WE FUCKING GET IT! YOU CRY BABY ASS BITCH! WE GET IT!”

No one said a word as Asha stared at the girl, tears of rage bubbling in her eyes. Solomon quickly looked from the two girls and was about to get up when I cleared my throat.

“Can you please continue digging,” I commanded softly. Solomon looked at me before looking at the men.

“Why did y'all invite these girls man?” Trevor muttered as Namir shrugged with a shake of his head.

“I tried to keep–––”

“She said keep digging!” Souxie snapped. The men immediately went back to work, kicking up the grass with their heads down. Bellamy was the only one who stood on the side, lighting a fresh cigarette and keeping his eyes suspiciously onme. Asha suddenly turned and went back to the house just as the one named Harvey with the blacked-out eyes stepped out holding a sandwich.

“I made myself a sandwich, does anybody want some?” He asked. “I figured we’ll be here for a while.”

“Why are you in their kitchen?!” Namir flipped.

“Because I was hungry? Is that not obvious?”

“Shit, hold up. He might be on to something,” Seth said. “What they got to drink?”
