“Want to come with me?”
I roll my eyes. “I’m serious.”
Flynn’s clear gaze meets mine. “So am I.”
The promise in his words makes me feel some kind of way and I push back from the table, needing a little distance from this man whom I really shouldn’t like. I take my bowl to the sink and rinse it.
“I have something I need to do before I go,” Flynn says from behind me.
I turn around and brace my hands against the edge of the counter. “Does this something have anything to do with the Kings Society?”
A predator stillness settles over Flynn. He lowers his chopsticks, carefully placing them across his bowl. “Where did you hear that name?” The words are too calm and my heart kicks up a notch.
Flynn’s sharp gaze locks onto me and my fingers curl around the counter. I kick myself because for a second there, I let my guard down. I forgot that I was sitting across from a sociopath. But there’s no ignoring it now.
It’s like someone flicked a switch because this isn’t the boy who squirted whipped cream on my nose or who tells me stupid jokes. This is the man who escaped from a maximum-security prison. Who strangles people with his bare hands. Who took over my life because he thinks I belong to him. This is the Vigilante Choker.
My gaze darts to my closed laptop. “I, uh, just read it somewhere.”
Flynn follows my eyeline. The chair scrapes as he stands up and stalks towards me. “Have you been looking me up, Lilac?”
Danger plays in his eyes as he stares down at me.
I lift a shoulder and tip up my chin. “Fair’s fair. You stalk me, I… cyber stalk you.”
Flynn’s lip ticks up, a low chuckle rolling from his chest. He steps in closer and places his hands on either side of my hips, caging me in. “And what did you find, sweetheart?”
My stomach flips, the way his tongue curls around the word “sweetheart” making my panties damp. “That at least two of your victims were members of the Kings Society.”
Any trace of amusement drops away and between one blink and the next Flynn’s hand is around my neck.
I breathe through my nose, my heart racing a mile a minute. I shouldn’t like this, but I do. The dangerous look in his eyes. The pressure of his fingers on my pulse. The way he tilts my head back ever so slightly like my body is his to control.
“You shouldn’t know that name,” he says, the words wrapped in a warning. “You shouldn’t be looking intoanything.”
I swallow against his palm. The edge of fear chases down my spine but it’s different than it was with Tommy. This fear feelsgood.and maybe I’m crazy or maybe it’s the fact that I kind of like it but nothing in me wants to back down. “Youshouldn’t have broken into my house. Shouldn’t be tracking my location or watching me on hidden cameras.” I raise a brow. “I could go on if you like. Between us we have a lot ofshouldn’ts.”
Flynn runs his tongue over his lips, a flicker in his eye like I’m playing with fire. He steps in closer, his hips pressing against mine as he guides my head to the side and brings his lips to my ear. “I think you like it when I watch you. Just like you enjoy having my hand around your neck.”
“I don’t,” I bite out on instinct, the denial bitter in my mouth.
Flynn’s grip on my throat tightens. “If you’re going to lie, Lilac, I won’t let you speak.” He squeezes tighter, stopping my words, blocking my air for just one long moment before letting me breathe once more.
“Now, let’s try that again.” Flynn’s hand cups my core. “If I check between your pretty thighs right now, sweetheart, will I find you wet?”
My body is clearly my enemy because a gush of arousal dampens my panties at his question, but I pin my mouth shut, refusing to answer.
“Oh Lilac, this is going to be a problem.” Keeping one hand around my neck, Flynn drags his knuckles over my jeans, teasing my core.
A pitiful whimper slips from my lips.
He draws his fingers back and forth. “Looking into things you shouldn’t be is a dangerous game. One that has consequences.”
He shifts the hand on my throat, splaying his fingers across my cheek and drawing my gaze back to his. “What else have you discovered?”
I’m on the edge of melting into a puddle but I breathe through the heady arousal and try to focus. “Nothing.”
Flynn tsks. “What did I say would happen if you lied?”
