A devilish smirk graces his face. “Oh yeah?”
“Yep. No books.” I shake my head. “Just follow your instincts.”
Flynn hums under his breath, his fingers drawing patterns on my thighs. “Do you know what my instincts are telling me to do now?”
“What?” I say on a gasp as his thumb grazes the edge of my pussy.
“They’re telling me to push you up against the wall, drag these damn jeans down your legs, and bury my face between your pretty thighs until you scream for me.”
I hold back a whimper, my fingers tightening in his hair. “If I scream, your brother will come down here.”
Flynn stands up and takes my hands. He pulls me across the fluffy black rug and backs me up against the wall. Deft fingers flick the button of my jeans open, and he lowers to his knees before looking up at me, mischief sharp in his eyes. “I guess you better stay quiet then.”
My stomach flips. “We really shouldn’t,” I say, because despite the kiss we just shared, a very small part of me is aware that I’ve practically been kidnapped and it’s probably a bad idea to let your captor make you come. But then Flynn nuzzles his nose against my clit, and my head falls back against the wall.
“No?” he murmurs, his fingers already hooked under the waistband of my jeans.
I bury my hand in his curls. “Nope, definitely a bad idea,” I say, even as I step out of my jeans.
Flynn pushes up the bottom of my shirt and presses soft kisses to my stomach. “I want to taste you, Lilac.”
Each kiss flutters in my core, my need for him rising like the tide. He stands up, lifting my shirt up and over my head before dropping back to his knees. I twist my fingers through his hair, trying desperately to anchor myself but then my gaze catches on the murder board and my hand goes slack.
Everything Flynn told me about the Kings Society runs through my head and Tommy’s words come back to me.You ruined any chance I ever had of becoming a King. I go a little dizzy as I finally put together exactly what that means. “Oh god.”
Flynn stands up in an instant, his hand cradling my cheek and pulling my gaze away from the board. “Hazel.”
“Oh my god,” I say again, nausea swirling in my stomach.
“Hazel, talk to me.” Flynn’s firm voice keeps me grounded and I take in a shaky breath as I look at him.
“Tommy, my ex, he said it was my fault he didn’t become a King.”
I grip Flynn’s shirt as the memories run through my mind. Tommy turning up at the dorm, beaten black and blue after I stood him up. How obsessed he was with getting into that damn society.
“The night we broke up, I was supposed to meet him for a date and when I didn’t show, he got so mad. He said I ruined everything, that all I had to do was turn up and I couldn’t even do that right. I didn’t know what he meant at the time but now…” I trail off, my gaze drifting back to the murder board and the men on it, all of whom paid their entrance by bringing a woman to “sacrifice.”
Flynn’s gaze darkens, his jaw sharp enough to cut glass, and for once he seems every bit as dangerous as he is. “You were supposed to be his sacrifice.”
Tears sting my eyes and I screw up my face. “Fuck. Fucking bastard.”
“Hey, hey, you’re okay. It didn’t happen. He can’t hurt you.”
I heave in a breath and swipe at the tears on my cheeks. “And then when I saw him yesterday— Fuck.” I shake my head. “I should have let Wright cut his stupid dick off.”
“Yesterday?” Flynn cocks his head, a deadly silence to the movement.
I go still.
“Why did you see him yesterday, Hazel?”
I chew on my lip, my horror at how close I came to being assaulted morphing into “oh shit” as I realize my mistake. I knew Flynn wouldn’t be happy if he found out I went to see Tommy. All I had to do was not mention my little extracurricular trip while standing right in front of him but no, apparently I’m not that sneaky.
“Did I say yesterday? I meant six years ago.”
“Hazel,” Flynn warns.
I stare down at Flynn’s feet, ducking under his glare.
