Simmons smiled at her. “Those blessings have a tendency to hover, don’t they?”

“They really are blessings.” She said it as much to herself as to her neighbor.

“I know it well. You haven’t met them yet, but I have kids who come to visit. Two daughters and a son, with their families.” She eyed Glory. “Your family is the rich folks, right? Church was buzzing about it.”

“The McCallahans, yes. My aunt and uncle, and my cousin.”

“And that handsome young man who’s staying with you?”

So, so nosy, but in a sweet way. “He’s Kam Norwood, brother to Tanner Patrick.”

“Ah, yeah, I heard Addie Willis raised them?”

Here she was, outside for the first time in days, aching from head to toe, grateful that PB had decided to loll in the grass, and her neighbor wanted to gossip. “Do you know Addie?”

“I hear good things. That older boy replaced a few trees for me once after a storm. They live in the rural area, so I don’t run into them often. Always seemed nice, though.”

“They’re the nicest.”

“Well now, you might be biased since you have that young stud hanging around.”

Hmm. Kam really was a young stud. “I don’t mean to be rude, Mrs. Simmons—”

She fanned the air, as if to rid herself of the comment. “Call me Glenda. And your first name is?”

“Glory.”

“That’s unusual, but really pretty.”

Before Glory could thank her, she’d taken the leash.

“How about I help you back into the house—I can see your mouth pinching a bit and I’d like to think it’s from discomfort. Not that I want you hurting, but better that than you disliking my company so much.”

“Oh, I don’t mind your company at all. It’s been nice chatting.” For Glenda, PB trotted right along, her folded-over ears bouncing, her tail wagging.

Glenda somewhat trotted, too, actually, and it was all Glory could do to keep up.

“I suppose I should slow down a bit. I’ve been dying to see the place. Saw the movers carrying in all that nice furniture—almost as nice as the man candy you have coming and going.” She winked.

“Yes, indeed.” The best man candy ever. “Kam has been incredible. Always really, but especially since my accident.”

“The man’s smitten. Anyone can see that.”

Smitten?“You really think so?”

“He hasn’t told you?” Turning back to her, Glenda chortled. “You need to come right out and ask him. Bet he’ll surprise you real nice.”

“You really think so?” Would Kam commit to a long-term relationship?

“Better yet, tell him how you feel first.”

Her mouth opened, but nothing came out. Tell Kam that she loved him? Did she dare? “Is it obvious that I’m...smitten, too?” Just saying the word made Glory feel silly.

Glenda gave her a superior frown. “You haven’t told him how you feel, have you?”

“No?”

With a pitying shake of her head, Glenda got them moving again. “You, my dear, are madly in love. Why deny it?” She opened the back door and then stepped aside so Glory could enter first.
