Dear Diary,
I think my mother may be evil incarnate, but I’m not allowing myself to think about her until after my midterm.
Besides, there are much better things to think about. Like Noah.
While I might be a tiny bitirritatedwith him for trying to scrap everything we’ve done for our duet so far, I can’t be too mad. We still have two whole months, so starting over wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen.
But I like the sixteen measures we’ve composed so far. They’re thoughtful.
Pensive.
Beautiful.
The breath of silence between two of the notes makes me think ofus.
I don’t want to scrap it.
The last time we tested playing together, I got goose bumps. Whether it was the piece itself or playing with Noah that caused them, who’s to know?
Gotta run,
Emma

Finn the Magician: Surfing with a friend Sunday afternoon. Wanna join?
Emma: Yes! What should I bring?
Finn the Magician: We’ll rent a board and wetsuit for you, so just bring a swimsuit to wear underneath.
Emma: I meant snacks. What snacks should I bring?
Finn the Magician: … I should’ve known. Bananas are a great surf snack, and we’ll hit up a food truck for lunch. I’ll text you where to meet.
Emma: Can’t wait!

October was flying by, and fall arrived with a vengeance for fuzzy socks and pumpkin spice lattes—both of which I spent copious amounts of time with, along with a certain guy whose kisses were becoming as addictive as my favorite beverage.
Most of my time with Noah was dedicated to working on our duet—when he wasn’t determined to quiz me with his flash cards. It was cute how much he cared about keeping my grade up, and I found my procrastination taking a backseat. It helped that the more time we spent studying for Slade’s midterm, the more I learned about my new boyfriend.
It was interesting getting to know Noah Kincaid.
Difficult? Yes.
Felt like pulling teeth at times? Sure.
Worth every minute? Totally.
He was an onion, and I just kept pulling back more and more layers—but I was nowhere near the center.
My diary was full of entries detailing our budding romance along with a phone full of photos, though he wasn’t the most willing model. Some of my favorite dates were when we’d grab a cup of coffee and just study for a Music Theory quiz or watch one of Teresa’s games.
We even made a habit of hanging out in my dorm watching crime shows and doing crossword puzzles—something I’d discovered Noah liked quite a bit.
But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
