Noah remained ever poised. “Yes, the meal.”

“You and me?” I asked, to make sure. Was this a prank? I glanced around us, but the room was emptying and there weren’t any camera crews around.

“Yes, both of us.”

“Together?”

He breathed a laugh as he slid his hands out of his pockets and crossed his arms. “I’m sure we could sit at different tables, but that would ruin the—”

“Noah!” I groaned, tempted to hit him. My eyes narrowed dangerously. “I can’t believe I’m saying this to you of all people—but can you please be serious for a second? Are you asking me to dinner?”

A smile cracked through, and his eyes were entirely too warm as they took me in. “Yes. Dinner. You and me. What do you say?”

I shifted my weight and pursed my lips as I searched for a catch. “And is this a not-date dinner?”

His smile widened. “Not unless you want it to be.”

I took a deep breath, and my knuckles turned white from how tightly I clutched the test. “You’re really asking me out?”

“Only if you say yes.”

I guess that settled it. “I could eat.”

Noah’s lips quirked, and he didn’t seem the least bit surprised. “Good. I’ll pick you up at seven. Wear something nice.”

He turned down the aisle, but I reached out and grabbed his arm before he could take more than a step.

He didn’t jerk away this time.

“Wait.” I swallowed over a lump forming as he turned back to me. Who knew a test could make me so emotional? “You helped me so much this week, and I just want to say thank you. I owe you. Again.”

Noah glanced down at where my hand gripped his sleeve. “This was all you. You’re the one who took the test.”

If I’d thought the butterflies in my stomach couldn’t grow more smitten with Noah Kincaid, I was wrong. They were throwing a party in the guy’s honor.

CHAPTER15

A Lily

Dear Diary,

Ignore everything I told you this morning.

Noah asked me out. We’re going on a date tonight.

Is smiling supposed to hurt this much?

Hope I don’t throw up!

Emma

P.S. I passed the test! My life isn’t over.
