We followed the stone path to the castle and let ourselves in.
“Fuck,” Biast said, blowing a breath out of his nose before we could get five feet inside.“What the fuck is it this time?Come to tell me that I can’t rule this kingdom now that Sathanus is gone?Do you want it all to yourself?”He looked over at Dani.“Are you here to fucking distract me?Try to suck out my soul again?”
Dani scrunched her nose.“What’s your damn problem?”
She said something under her breath that I couldn’t quite hear but Biast could. They began bickering back and forth, and I was about one second away from screaming at them to shut the fuck up.
I didn’t get angry often, but someone had taken the fucking Crucifix. And I needed to find it before it made its way back up to Heaven and into her hands.Because once it did … we would lose any war that came down upon us.
Angels would fly down to Hell and try to destroy us … all because of a fucking cross.
“We have bigger problems than this, idiot.”I clenched my teeth and turned toward his kingdom, walking to the edge of the room and staring out at all the death and destruction.
Of course, whoever it was would come directly here.In any other kingdom, they would leave a trail of death as demons tried to take the Crucifix from them.
Here, in Wrath, people were tortured all the damn time.It didn’t matter the reason. The demons here were just pissed off at the fucking world.
I clenched my hands into fists.“Did you take it?”
“Take what?”he asked, brows furrowed.“Accusing me now?”
“The Crucifix.”
“Why would I take it?Sathanus might’ve wanted it, but I don’t give a fuck about it.I don’t need it to give me power.”
“Then who took it?”Dani asked.
“Does it look like I fucking know?”
“It sounds like you’re fucking stupid,” Dani said.
“STOP,” I said loud enough for everyone in the castle to hear.“We need to find that fucking thing before something shitty happens.Whoever took it is in Wrath.Find them.Now.”
Fifty
We spenthours looking around Wrath, asking people if they had seen anyone who might be suspicious, trying to find any sign of the cross. And when it started to get dark above—the sky a maroon color—we went back to the castle and looked down at the fire and pits below.
“Bathroom?”Eros asked Biast, taking a peek at Dani.
Biast rolled his eyes, stuck a thumb into the air, and hiked it back, pointing at the hallway behind him.
“I’ll be back,” Eros said, heading toward the hallways and winking at Dani.
I cleared my throat.“This is not a time to fuck,” I said through clenched teeth.
But Eros was already gone, so I gave Dani a pointed expression so she knew I was serious.I was not about to lose whoever this was to two horny leaders.
We had the fucking Crucifix to deal with right now.
Wrapping my fingers tightly around my glass of blood—because that was the only thing Wrath had—I stared down at the kingdom of fire and shook my head.Who the fuck had taken it?Nobody seemed out of place.Everyone was doing what they always did—torturing lost and broken souls.Nobody had the Crucifix or even anything that looked like it.
My gaze scanned the crowd until it landed on the pathway leading from the portal.Gray ash rained down from the sky, and part of me had to blink a few times … but I swore I had seen Raphaela.
No.I knew I had seen Raphaela.
“What the fuck?”I said under my breath, placing the glass down on the table and hurrying toward the exit of this castle with Dani’s wrist in my grasp.
It was that fucking bitch. She could give me every fucking reason in the book, but there was no reason for her to be in Wrath.
