I grinned. “Didn’t stop you.”

“That’s because, deep down, I knew you were a big ol’ softy.”

I gasped. “You take that back right now. I have a reputation to protect here.”

“Nope. Never.” I could hear the smile in her voice. “I have picture evidence to back up my claim.”

“You’ll have to turn that over. Immediately.”

“Make me.” Her tone was playful, almost brat-like.

Which had my mind wandering to places it had no business going. It was bad enough she’d been holding my curiosity hostage for sixteen days, I couldn’t let myself fantasize about her too. It was hard enough when she looked like the woman of my dreams and had no trouble keeping up with my banter, even throwing me for a loop sometimes.

“You still there?”

Shit. “Yeah. Sorry, I was looking up food places.”

“Did you miss the part where I’m a picky eater? I’m ordering food, you’re picking up food.” She said the second sentence slowly like she was talking to a child having trouble understanding.

Damn it, she needed to stop that.

“I heard you. But I have amazing taste so I’m getting us some lunch and I’ll be over right after.”

“Being a supervillain must be pretty boring if you’re able to drop everything and hang out with a silly volunteer at a moment’s notice.”

“You call, I come.” I paused as she burst out laughing. “That didn’t come out how I meant it, but either way.”

“What if I want to come?”

I arched an eyebrow, leaning back in my chair.

“My, my. Miss Hayes, are you flirting with me?”

“If you have to ask, I guess I wasn’t doing a very good job.” She paused. “How do you know my last name? I didn’t tell you, did I?”

“I’m a supervillain. I have a lot of enemies, I had to make sure you weren’t one of them before I jumped into bed with you. Professionally speaking, of course.”

“Ah, yes, of course. Because everything about you screams professional.” She chuckled. “I should go. I wasn’t expecting you to be available immediately, I need to get my lazy butt out of bed. Call me when you get here, I’ll buzz you up.”

She hung up before I could say anything else.

THE VILLAIN

An hour later,I was knocking on Violet’s door with a box of pepperoni pizza. I figured this was the safest bet. After all, who didn’t like pizza?

I waited for a minute and a half before the door swung open. I was wondering what the hell was taking so long until my eyes took in her damp hair and face, still flushed from the heat of her shower. She was wearing an off-shoulder t-shirt, leggings, and a glare.

“I told you to call when you got to the building. How did you get in?”

I gestured to the pizza box. “I look like a pizza delivery boy, I guess.”

She rolled her eyes but I could tell by the sparkle in her eyes that something wicked was about to come out of that pretty little mouth.

“Boy? Isn’t that just what they’re called in porn? Too bad I got myself dressed before I answer the door, then. However will I pay now, Mr. Pizza Boy?” She feigned an innocent tone that went straight to my dick.

No. Off limits.
