“Okay, so you got the results the day of the wake…”

Before she could get the rest of the sentence out, someone was knocking on the door.

Nina’s administrative team consisted of her assistant, the scheduler, whose only role was to schedule meetings, the travel coordinator, who booked flights and hotels, and lastly, her assistant had an assistant. She was the definition of a boss for real.

If someone was interrupting her, it had to be an emergency.

“Come in,” she said dryly.

It was her assistant, Daiya. “It’s important.”

“On a scale of 1-10?” Nina challenged her.

“A thousand.”

Dr. Berry’s eyes widened as Nina hopped to her feet.

“I’ll call you,” she told her on her way out the door.

“I can stay if you need me to… should I?” She directed the latter to Daiya.

She didn’t answer. Instead, she followed Nina down the hallway.

“Is Javon okay?”

Her only son… if something happened to her baby… on God, she was going right along with him.

Daiya shook her head. “It’s not him.”

“Okay, so what’s up? You’re acting weird.” Nina didn’t have the patience for this today.

Daiya pulled her into an empty office and shut the door.

“There’s a lady here asking to speak with you, so Michelle came and got me. I was wondering how she even made it to this floor, but that’s neither here nor there. She looked important… that’s what Nance said, so I checked the camera and called Sam to see if she had a meeting on the books that didn’t get synchronized to my cal-”

“Who is it?” Daiya knew that Nina didn’t do small talk and all this beating around the bush shit got on her nerves.

“She said that she’s Mr. Gotti’s girlfriend… and she would like to speak with you.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE

This note is for those of you who are new to my style of writing. Hi! I’m glad you made it this far into the series, which tells me that you may be fuckin’ with me for real. I’m grateful. I’m Nako. I am a self-published author from Atlanta, GA. I’m 32 years old and I love what I do. I’ve been doing this for a long time now… almost fourteen years. Some of my favorite books by me areIs She The Reason, Daughter of A Don series, In Love With Miranda McKenzie, and Juice. The Lord has been kind to me. My writing isn’t for everyone. It’s for those who want to find themselves, and if you’re not lost, I write for you too. I consider myself a light. No, this isn’t a self-help book, and no, this isn’t a guide on how to live your life. However, you may see glimpses woven into the pages of this book. I sort of tricked you to get you here. Parts I and II were… a ploy to get you to the THIRD installment. G3. This is where shit gets sticky. You may have to start pulling out your pen and pad and getting in your group chats to figure out WTF is going on. I go back and forth – past and present a LOT. My brain is wired differently, and just as excited as you are to read, I am to write.

I love writing stories that I love. I always write the book that I want to read. Bear with me because now that you’ve madeit to part 3…we can get into it how I want to get into it. AddThe Underworldseries to your TBR list. My style of writing is different. Join us over on Patreon and Nako’s Reading Group on FB and IG. I take you here…I bring you there. You hate her. You want to fuck him, then kill him. Pretty much, you don’t know what you’re truly feeling. But you’re in it now. You made it to part three, so get comfortable, buckle up, and stay for a while. We have a lot to uncover. You have a lot to learn about Nina and Jio, and slowly but surely, we’ll dive into Javon’s life because he’s not as innocent as he seems. Everything that glitters isn’t gold, and Khia told us a long time ago: don’t trust no nigga…. NO? Not even a MADE MAN? NOPE.

Enjoy the ride,xoxonako

BACK IN THOSE 20-SOMETHINGS…..

The weight of knowing was wild business. It was heavy and Nina didn’t want to carry big things anymore. Who said being an adult was fun?

She wanted to be off the emotional rollercoaster better known as LIFE. It was too much for her. Anxiety was on her big time. Disappointment. Shame. Agony. Those were words that she would use if someone handed her a marker and said describe how you feel.

The look on her mother’s face after the dinner ended remained etched on her mind. But it was the way her sister’s shoulders slumped before Nina walked away.
