TWO YEARS LATER

B

“Are we at the point in our relationship where I can ask you to do my taxes for me?" I crane my neck around so I can peer into the kitchen, where I can see that Kass is cooking breakfast for Clover. "I'm still trying to figure out the rules."

I fix my eyes on my computer, which is sitting on the floor in front of me. I'm sprawled out on my stomach, staring at the hundreds of tabs I have open with stupid Google searches and legal documents covered in gibberish. Fuck if I know what to do with them.

I hear Kass enter the living room and get on all fours, hovering over me, his legs straddling mine. His voice is soft in my ear as he looks at my screen over my shoulder. "Do you trust me to do your taxes?"

A slight tilt of my head to the side has my forehead pressing into his cheek. "Surprisingly, I do."

"Surprisingly?" He bites my ear, making me pull away from him, giggling.

"You know what I mean."

"Of course, I'll help you with your taxes. I have anaccountant that I hire to do my taxes since it gets complicated with the tattoo shop."

"Do you have to pay them a lot to do that?"

"It's worth it. My time spent here is valuable, so I'd rather not waste it on silly things like taxes."

I roll over onto my back, and he lowers his body down to kiss me. When he pulls back, I brush the hair out of his face, but it's no use when he's looking down at me like this.

"And when do I start getting compensated for the valuable services I provide?"

He’s suppressing a grin. It's a seductive look that has my nipples hardening under my shirt.

"What sort of compensation are you looking for, Blake?"

Just as I'm about to pull him down on top of me, my phone buzzes on the floor next to me.

"It's Fia," Kass says, glancing over at my phone.

I roll to my side to answer, and her face pops up on my screen.

"Why am I staring at the ceiling? Oh god, are you two..?"

I quickly grab the phone and put my face into view. "Hello, Fia. What do you need?"

"Just wanted to tell you guys about my date last night."

"Oooooo, yes please!" Kass says, snatching my phone from my hand. He crawls off of me and stands, offering a hand to help me up.

I follow him back to the kitchen, where he props my phone up against the utensil holder and continues cooking breakfast. I jump up on the counter, tucking my legs underneath me as Fia tells us about her night.

"I told you so," I say as I lean over and grab a bag of chips off the counter.

Kass looks at me with a raised brow. "You see I'm cooking breakfast, right?"

"This is my pre-breakfast snack," I say with a mouth full of sour cream and onion potato chips.

Kass shakes his head and laughs, flipping the bacon in the pan.

Fia, used to our shenanigans, continues with her story. "He wassogood, you guys! Biggest I've ever had."

I lean over and check that Clover's bedroom door is still shut. It is, and her music is blaring, so I can almost guarantee she can't hear us. That's something I've had to get used to since moving in. There are always little, impressionable ears around.

"Hey." Kass leans over so his face is on camera. "He may be bigger, but he wasn't as good as me, right?"
