Skye nods, but she’s already back into the keyboard, adding up numbers because she’s the one that has to present at church this evening, and we’re going to have to find a way to keep the cash coming in if we’re not able to run trips between here and Tucson or Vegas, or take in women for Duchess until this thing with the Scorpions and Desert Riders blows over.

I reach the top of the steps and glance in the direction of my room. I should dump my coffee on the fucking asshole. Maybe that would wake him up and get him out of my bed. Instead, I pass it and head down to Shine’s, giving her door a rap.

No answer.

Still with the silent treatment but I’ve had just about enough of this. I go to jiggle her doorknob, but it turns and opens into her bedroom. Her fucking empty bedroom. I head downstairs, take a few gulps of my coffee, and grab my vest and helmetwithout bothering to find Skye in the kitchen rattling around. She must have decided she needed another coffee to tackle that math, but time is of the essence, and I need to go.

Outside, I expect to see Shine’s bike gone, but I don’t. That means one thing. Someone picked her up and I have no clue who it is, but as soon as I find out they are going to pay. I walk my bike a short way, far enough to keep prying eyes of the other Harlots and Royal Bastards out of my business, and then kick it into gear.

This is between us, VP to VP.

HAWG

Onyx…

That sweet face and those bright green eyes pooled with desire are the first things I think about as I wake to the Arizona sun spilling in from a crack in the curtain. I squint, glancing over at her side of the bed, only to find it completely empty and my dark-haired angel gone.

A quick glance at my phone shows that it’s not that late, only eight a.m., and after the night we had I would have anticipated sleeping later than this and maybe even going another round. I get dressed and tug on my boots, intent on finding the woman who’s gone from taking up my dreams to living them out in full play but has disappeared from the bed.

After a quick trip into her adjoining bathroom, not a privilege all the ladies have, I walk downstairs half expecting, or maybe hoping, to find her in the kitchenette getting a cup of coffee or some breakfast because she sure wasn’t interested in food of that kind last night. But she’s nowhere to be found.

Skye is at the small table pushed against the window, nursing a cup of coffee while studying something on her computer rather intently. “You happen to know where Onyx is?”

She looks up, gives me a once over and goes back to her assessment of the screen in front of her like I wasn’t even standing here.

“Hello?”

“I don’t generally talk to assholes.”

The fuck? “You wanna give me a clue what’s going on? And where’s Onyx?”

Skye looks up and this time her eyes flash. “You fucking felt different and then do the same damn thing. Is it any wonder women don’t trust you and your kind?”

It’s too early in the morning for this bullshit. I haven’t even had a fucking cup of coffee yet. “Look, you wanna tell me what you’re talking about and quit talking in riddles? What is it that you think I’ve done other than spend time with Onyx? She’s an adult last time I checked, and she certainly doesn’t need anyone’s approval for that, right?”

Her red nails hit the keyboard in front of her click after click without a glance. “You’re done here, Hawg. Leave.”

The fuck is wrong with this chick. I don’t usually worry myself with what people think of me but this, after what I just shared with Onyx bothers the fuck out of me. I tap Skye on the shoulder to get her to turn her attention back to me because I’m not fucking going away until she explains what she means.

She looks up at me like she’d rather be anyplace but here. “You’re really going to act like you haven’t done a thing wrong, like you aren’t the fucking lowlife ass that you are, with me?” She stands up, her nostrils flaring and eyes blazing. “Get the fuck out.”

I have no fucking idea what she’s talking about, and I’m not interested in starting a fight with a Harlot, the very female MC club we’re supposed to be protecting, but at the same time I’m not about to take this shit. “I’m not going to ask you again. Where is Onyx?”

Skye’s face is a mask of disdain. “She’s probably still upstairs with Shine. You flirt with her, and then go back to your club and make time with one of the fucking bunnies at your club, and have the fucking nerve to stick your diseased rod into Onyx? Get out!”

My head spins trying to keep up to her accusations. “I don’t owe you a fucking explanation but let’s be clear, whatever you think about me and a bunny, it’s not true.”

Skye’s eyebrows arch. “Your word against hers, Hawg. Things travel fast in the bunny world because the little sluts are always far too eager to brag about whose bed they got into.”

Fuck this. I head upstairs to Shine’s room not caring one fuck that they may be having a private conversation, because Onyx is going to hear what I have to say. I knock on the door and there’s no answer. “Onyx?”

Nothing but silence greets me back.

I frown, turn the knob, and to my surprise it opens just fine. But not one person is in that room, not Onyx and not Shine. Motherfucker these women are going to give me a heart attack. I race to Onyx’s room, grab a few things I left, and race downstairs.

Skye looks up as I tap her on the shoulder. “Onyx and Shine are both gone? You’re really going to tell me you don’t know where they fucking went?”
