“She’s coming to work with me,” Eden said with a smile.
Letty’s reply was a contented grumble.
“Let’s see, I met so many women, girl,” she said. “I think we’ll be hearing from Lindsey and probably Kelly. I gave Gabi my number too.” She paused and rubbed the space between the cat’s ears. “I hope Tennie will call. She was interesting, kind of quiet compared to the others, but seemed rather sweet.”
Letty began to purr loudly.
“There’s nothing wrong with sweet,” she went on. “You love Randi and she can be sweet. Although I wouldn’t necessarily describe her that way. When it comes to you and me, Randi is thoughtful and loves us. Even if you occasionally make her sneeze.”
Letty stretched out her front legs and slowly rolled out of Eden’s lap. She knew the cat had had enough as she curled into the corner of the couch and went to sleep.
Eden smiled at her furry friend and wondered if they would be welcoming someone new into their home. She didn’t have the feeling she’d met the love of her life or even a girlfriend tonight, but she didn’t believe in thatlove at first sightstuff anyway.
Randi had been right when she told the crowd she’d given them four dates’ worth of information. Eden was slow to open up and cautious. She’d had her heart broken a time or two and certainly didn’t want to go through that again.
She preferred to go slow and get to know someone before she shared too much about her heart. It was safer that way although some women had accused her of being closed off and too wary. Randi understood, though, and encouraged her to trust her heart.
Eden smiled as her thoughts turned to Randi once again. “She’s coming to work with me.”
Her phone pinged with a text and she reached for it on the table in front of the couch.
Hope you had fun tonight. When’s your first date?
Eden chuckled and typed out her reply.
It was fun. Thanks again for making me look so good.
She saw the three little dots appear on her screen as Randi typed a message.
I didn’t do anything but tell them how amazing you are.
Eden smiled at the screen. Randi always knew what to say to give Eden a little boost of confidence.
You’ll be the first to know if anyone else thought I was amazing.
I’d better be!
Eden laughed and put her phone down. Of course Randi would be the first to know.
Chapter Four
Eden walked into the coffee shop on her way to work. She loved this part of her regular routine because it gave her a chance to ease into the day.
“The usual?” the barista asked.
“Hi, Susie.” Eden smiled. “You’d better give me an extra pump of caramel this morning.”
“It is Monday.” Susie winked and gave Eden her change which she put in the tip jar on the counter.
“Thanks.”
Eden nodded and walked over to wait on her coffee. She took out her phone and began to scroll through the emails which would be waiting for attention when she got to her desk.
“Order for Tennie,” Susie called.
Eden looked up from her phone to see the woman she’d met at the Pitch a Friend event take the cup. She waited until Tennie turned around then said, “Good morning.”
“Well, hey,” Tennie replied with a big smile. “This is a nice surprise.”
