“Do you care to share what genre or books you like?”
Tennie pursed her lips. “Maybe we could discuss books on a coffee date some morning?”
Eden raised her brows and felt her heart beat a little faster.
“Oh wait, you may not be a morning person,” Tennie said hurriedly.
“It’s okay,” Eden replied. “Do you want to meet here a little earlier in the morning and get a table?”
The smile that bloomed on Tennie’s face made Eden chuckle.
“That would be great,” Tennie said. “Wasn’t I supposed to ask you out though?”
“You did,” Eden said. “I was just confirming our plans.”
Tennie chuckled. “Your kindness in covering my awkwardness is appreciated.”
Eden took a sip of her coffee. She walked out of the coffee shop with Tennie and they said their goodbyes. It was going to be a good day.
The morning went by quickly and Eden kept expecting Randi to pop into her office when she got there. She was supposed to start her consulting gig with Hook, Line & Reader today. They had met yesterday afternoon on the patio of one of their favorite restaurants for chips and salsa. It was a beautiful day and they’d both wanted to soak up a little sun. Randi had explained she was going to take vacation from her current job so she could concentrate on Cari DeWare and the presentation she was supposed to give at the end of the week.
Eden walked by Analise’s office and when she didn’t see her there continued down the hall to the conference room.
“Hey, has our new star pitcher arrived yet?” Eden asked, leaning into the room.
“That makes me sound like a baseball player,” Randi said, walking into the room and slipping past Eden.
“But you love baseball.”
“No, I like going to baseball games. Who doesn’t like a ballpark hot dog and a cold beer on a hot day? At least the stadium has air conditioning now.”
“All this time I thought you loved baseball because you were a softball kind of lesbian.”
Randi scoffed. “Let’s get on a team and I’ll show you what this lesbian can do with a softball.”
Analise laughed. “Even though I’m enjoying this banter, we do have a lot of work to do before we pitch Cari DeWare.”
“Did everything go okay at your office?” Eden asked.
Randi nodded and sat down next to Analise. “It’s fine. I went by the office to make sure all of my accounts were up to date and cleared my calendar for the week. I did not tell them what I’m doing. If all goes well here, then I will give my two-week notice and join HLR after that. I may change jobs more often than some people.” She stared at Eden. “But I do respect my employers and the process.”
“We’re happy to work with you, Randi,” Analise said.
“I’ll let you two get started,” Eden said. “I’m glad you’re here.” She smiled at Randi before she walked back to her office.
She was excited that Randi had finally agreed to come work with her even if it was only temporary for now. Even though Eden wasn’t usually involved in the creative end of the business it would be fun seeing Randi every day. Plus, she really wanted Randi to find a job she loved just like Eden loved working at HLR.
She got back to her office and pulled up the spreadsheet she’d been working on with a smile on her face.
“Ready for lunch?”
Eden looked up to see Randi’s smiling face in the doorway. She looked at the clock on her computer and back at Randi. “Wow, it feels like I just saw you.”
“Time flies when you’re having fun.”
“Have you been working with Analise all morning?”
Randi nodded. “So far, so good. I have some ideas along with a lot of things to learn in a short amount of time.”
