“I explained why I was going to be there,” Randi said. “She was disappointed I wasn’t asking her out. I think her comment was something to the effect that she loves a good forbidden hook-up or romance.”

“Wow!” Eden’s eyes widened comically.

“I know!”

“Does she think it’s weird you’re going to be there for me?” Eden said. “Just in case?”

“Not at all.” Randi chuckled. “It seems she’s always looking for new material, so we may end up in one of her books.”

“How about that.” Eden laughed. “Oh, would you come by after work and help me pick out an outfit for Thursday night?”

Randi nodded. “Sure.” She didn’t know how many times she’d sat in Eden’s bedroom for a style show of sorts and Eden had done the same for her.

“Okay, I’ve got to get to work on this pitch. See you later.”

Eden hopped up and gave Randi a little salute. “You’re going to be great.”

Randi smiled as Eden left the office. She had always been Randi’s number one cheerleader and vice versa. Maybe Kelly would be the one for Eden. Why did that leave such an unsettling feeling in the pit of Randi’s stomach? They’d both had girlfriends over the years, but worked to maintain their close friendship. Surely this wouldn’t be any different.

Chapter Seven

“Thanks for stopping by,” Eden said as she led Randi to her bedroom.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m tired.” Randi plopped down on Eden’s bed.

“What? You always have boundless energy once you leave work.” Eden opened her closet and began to look at the clothes neatly hanging, divided into tops, pants, and skirts.

“Not today. I’ve crammed so much information into my head all I can see are books, books, and more books.”

Eden chuckled and turned to look at her friend. “Will you have a preliminary pitch ready for tomorrow?”

“Yeah, I have some ideas of what I want to present. You’ll be there, right?”

Eden furrowed her brow and tilted her head. “I’m not usually in on creative meetings.”

“But I need you there. You know what will give us the biggest returns and I want to stress that in the beginning.”

Eden shrugged. “Okay. I’ll be there and if nothing else, you’ll see my smiling face full of encouragement.”

Randi chuckled and leaned back against the pillows as Letty suddenly jumped up on the bed and crawled into her lap. “Well hello, pretty girl.”

Eden looked on as Randi scratched behind Letty’s ears. Her heart melted as she could hear Letty purring from across the room.

“It’s only been a couple of days, but I have to admit that it's been nice knowing you’re across the hall,” Randi said, looking over at Eden.

“I’m telling you, working together would be fun.”

“I don’t doubt that.” Randi sighed. “I just hope it will be good for the company.”

“You do your job and I’ll do mine. Everything else will take care of itself.”

Randi nodded. “Okay, what are you wearing for this hot first date?”

“Mmm, I don’t see it as hot. It’s just a first date.”

“That will depend on what you’re wearing.”

Eden smirked and turned back to her closet. “We’ll see. I thought about wearing this cute little dress with a jean jacket,” she said, holding the dress in front of her.
