Eden whirled around with fire in her eyes. “Randi Powell?—”
Randi couldn’t keep from laughing and Eden deflated in front of her eyes.
“You are so bad!” Eden exclaimed.
Randi chuckled. “That’s why you love me.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Eden muttered, getting into her car. “I’ll see you at the bookstore.”
Randi was still laughing when she pulled out of the parking lot and headed to The Plot Twist. Twenty minutes later she walked into the bookstore to find Eden talking with someone at the front counter.
“Here she is.” Eden smiled as Randi walked up. “This is Randi Powell.”
“Hi, I’m Ginger Baird.”
Randi reached out and shook Ginger’s hand. “You have such beautiful hair.”
“Isn’t it,” Eden agreed.
Ginger smiled shyly.
“She’s a sucker for a redhead.” Eden smirked, gesturing towards Randi with her thumb.
“Eden!” Randi exclaimed. “I’m sorry, Ginger. That was inappropriate.”
“Not at all,” Ginger replied. “Thank you.”
Randi smiled then gave Eden a menacing look. As far as first impressions went Randi did not think this one was going well.
“I feel like I already know you,” Ginger said. “I’m always asking Eden what the two of you have been up to and she shares your latest escapades.”
Eden chuckled, looking at Randi. “You’re always getting me to try something new and there’s usually a good story that goes with it.”
Randi smiled. “I don’t guess we’ve done anything exciting lately.”
“You taught me how to two-step.”
Randi turned to see Cari smiling as she joined them.
“We did,” Randi said. “Ginger, this is Cari DeWare. We are so excited to welcome her to Hook, Line & Reader.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” Ginger said. “I’ve read several of your books. We can't wait to host you here at the bookstore.”
Cari smiled and nodded. “Thank you. I’m happy to be here.” She looked at Eden. “I hope you don’t mind me tagging along tonight.”
“Not at all,” Eden said. “This is all about you.”
“Let me show you around,” Ginger said.
They followed Ginger around the store and Randi listened as Eden explained how they’d done other author events.
As they walked back up to the front Randi stopped and gazed around the space. “I was wondering if instead of having the tables set up in the back maybe we could do it in this part of the store,” she said, holding her arms out wide. “We’d have a large sign at the entrance reminding customers about the event, but they simply have to look and they’ll see all the action happening right here.”
Randi could see Ginger and Eden looking around the area so she continued. “Setting up here won’t stop the flow of traffic through the store, but it’s noticeable and maybe customers who don’t know about the event will be curious and want to find out more.”
“I could move this set of tables over this way which should give you room to set up a place for Cari to sign,” Ginger said. “Or we could clear these tables and use them for Cari’s books.”
“Oh, that would be good!” Eden exclaimed.
