“Oh, fuck, Heath.” I cry out.
Waves of heat roll through my core, winding tighter and hotter with every pulse. I thrust the main shaft deeper, a moan tearing from my throat as my climax builds—only to be ripped from my haze by the unmistakable sound of boots shuffling across the floor.
My heart slams against my ribs as I freeze mid-thrust, my eyes widening in shock when I see Heath standing in the open doorway. He’s leaning casually against the frame, his eyes blazing with lust as he shamelessly devours every inch of my naked body.
“You’re home early,” I say breathlessly.
“Heard you crying out my name,” he drawls, licking his lips. “Had to see what kind of trouble you were getting into without me.”
I prop myself up on my elbow, stealing a better look at him. His short-sleeved shirt clings to his biceps, the fabric stretching with every subtle flex. The way he tracks me with that piercing gaze makes every nerve in my body buzz with heightened awareness.
“I was hoping to take care of myself before you came home,” I confess.
His lips curve into a cocky smile. “Guess that was one hell of a kiss we shared earlier, huh?”
I playfully narrow my eyes. “It’s the pregnancy hormones. I’m so wet and achy all the time,” I groan, reminded of the vibrations still teasing at my entrance.
My cheeks turn flushed as I quickly pull Betty out and switch her off.
“We can’t have that now, can we?” Heath says, pushing off the doorframe and stalks toward the bed.
I slowly shake my head. I’m too far gone to vocalize what’s going on in my head, let alone to care that he’s here right now. Hell, there’s a big part of me that’s relieved he walked in on me. It’s allowed him to see that he does affect me the way I do him without having to say the inconvenient truth out loud.
“You ready to admit it, hellcat?”
“Admit what?” I whisper, playing oblivious.
“That you want me?” Heath stops at the side of the bed, staring down at me with unrestrained hunger. “That you’re ready to give us a real chance.”
I catch my lip between my teeth.
God, I want him so much it’s tempting to give in right here and now, but a small part of me is still holding back. It’s one thing to commit to another night or a casual fling, but admitting I want him as my husband, as my true partner puts me at risk of this ending with a broken heart. That I’ll end up like Grams, notonly doing this alone but being crushed by a man who promised me the world and walked away anyway.
It’s hard shaking the belief that men never stick around, and that commitments and loyalty mean nothing to them. That strong women can handle anything by themselves, even when they shouldn’t have to.
But what’s the alternative? Staying stuck in limbo, resisting the pull toward Heath until he gets tired of waiting on me to come around? Especially when all he’s done the past few weeks is patiently support me.
“It’s all right if you’re still unsure,” Heath rasps out when I don’t answer. “I’d love nothing more than to remind you how good we are together.”
I instinctively start to close my parted thighs, but he tsks.“Keep those legs wide so I can remind you how beautifully you come apart for me.”
“Fuck,” I moan, opening my legs wider, showing him how wet he makes me.
His eyes are hooded, devouring every inch of me like he’s a man starved and I’m his last meal.
“Do you trust me to take care of you?”
Every rational thought goes out the window, my desire for this man winning over.
“I do,” I say, voice trembling.
He crawls onto the bed, the mattress dipping beneath him as he hovers above me.
“I’d love to play with your toys on that pretty pussy,” he says in a husky voice, “but tonight I want you all to myself.” He takes the vibrator from my hand and tosses it aside.
“I was so close,” I whimper. “Please, Heath.”
“Don’t worry, sweetheart,” he murmurs, brushing his lips against mine. “I’ve got you.”
