“Oh, Cam. I’m so sorry that happened to you.”
Emily’s voice snapped him back to the present. “Aye, it was a learning experience, for sure. I’d never really understood howmuch some humans hated my kind. Whilst there was some bigotry in the army, in the end, we all had to work together to stay alive. But to her, dragon-shifters didn’t deserve to make decisions or be happy. They purely existed to heal humans with their blood and possibly be pets to tame and control.
“After that, I swore off females in general. I would occasionally hear of a dragon groupie gathering in Inverness or Aberdeen, and I’d fly there to get some release, knowing they at least wouldn’t hate me.” He paused and then finally added quietly, “But what happened in the past is the reason why I was so hostile to you in the beginning. Rationally, I knew you’d done so much to help my kind and weren’t going to betray me. But…”
“But you were still wary of human women in general.”
He met her gaze again. “Aye. I’m sorry, Emily. I shouldn’t have acted that way toward you.”
The corner of her mouth kicked up. “To be fair, I was being a little brat in the beginning, too. There was just something about you that both intrigued and terrified me. And not simply because you’re a dragon-shifter, either.”
He cupped her cheek. “I was a wee bit afraid too, the more I got to know you.”
“I hope you know that I’d never betray you like that, Cam.”
Nodding, he said, “I realized that when you told me about how you gave up your family to follow your dream and help dragon-shifters.” He leaned down and kissed the tip of her nose. “We might even be able to stop the dragon hunters once and for all because of your sacrifices and dedication.”
“That might be a bit much, but I’m determined to help in any way that I can.”
He rolled Emily onto her back and threaded his fingers through hers before pressing them to either side of her head. “The best way to help me right now is to let me explore your body and make you scream in pleasure.”
Her breath hitched, and Cam waited. If she said no, he’d back off. But now that she knew some of the worst of his past, if she still wanted him, then it would only reinforce that his gut had been right all along.
And so he waited.
Chapter Eleven
After hearing about the awful woman from Cam’s past, Emily wished she could find her and somehow make her pay.
Because between dealing with her father’s prejudices against dragon-shifters, as well as similarly minded folk in university, Emily knew those kinds of people only changed their minds if it somehow affected them negatively.
A bit of retribution might do the trick for that awful woman.
However, before Emily could start plotting, Cam rolled her onto her back and gently pinned their entwined hands to either side of her head. When he stated he wanted to make her scream in pleasure, wetness rushed between her thighs.
She still couldn’t believe this sexy dragonman wanted her so much.
Without missing a beat, she replied, “Yes. Please.”
He chuckled and kissed her jaw. “So polite.”
She wriggled her lower body against his and reveled in Cam’s groan. “Sometimes. But I can play a little dirty, too.”
His flashing eyes met hers again. “Aye? Well, I look forward to that side of you, Dr. Davies.” He released one of her hands totweak a nipple. She cried out, and he smiled smugly. “But right now, it’s my turn to play out one of my fantasies.”
He released her other hand and nuzzled where her shoulder met her neck before trailing his mouth down to her nipple. Taking it into his mouth, he suckled and nibbled and found what Emily liked most. By the time she was wriggling again, he released her and did the same with the other, all while caressing the wet tip of the first nipple with his fingers.
Never in her life had a man spent so much time teasing her body instead of just thrusting and finding his own pleasure.
As if sensing her thoughts, Cam raised his head and met her gaze. His pupils flashed rapidly as he asked, “Do you want me to keep going?”
She cleared her throat. “Yes, yes, of course.”
Tilting his head, Cam studied her for a few beats. Then he moved until their heads were even again, and he caressed the side of her neck. “Tell me what you want, Emily. Because if you’re suffering through something to please me, then don’t.”
“I’m not suffering through anything. And I wouldn’t, either. I watched my mother do that for years and years, neglecting herself to do my father’s bidding. I willneverbe like that.”
“Good. I’m sorry about your mum, but I want you to always be honest with me. Even if I won’t like it, tell me.”
