Corvin stepped back and caught me up to speed. “Taryn and Dani gave their statements to the police, and they want yours as well. But the alphas at the bakery a few doors down heard the noise and came rushing out. They said he nearly crashed into him and they chased him down. Nearly had him but the bastard slipped out of his hoodie. Slimy motherfucker.”
That was an understatement.
“It was him, wasn’t it?” I said. “Cameron. He’s stalking me, punishing me for living.”
“He’s not going to touch you,” Corvin promised, his voice hard. “You listen to me, omega. We will keep you safe. You’re going to have one of us with you at all times. We’re gonna make it through this.”
I swallowed hard, nodding, willing myself to believe him. I did… I was just so damn scared.
“We need to make sure someone stays at the school, too,” I said. “What about Phoenix? If he figures out that she’s important to me, she won’t be safe, either.”
“He’s not going to get either of you,” Apollo vowed. “We’ll have one of the officers stay at the school during school hours.”
A tear slipped free and I couldn’t stop shaking now that my brain was online.
“Can we at least go home now?” I begged.
“As soon as they tell us you can leave,” he promised.
“I’ll go check,” Ezra said, stepping away.
He disappeared out the doors. I stared after him for a second before turning to the others.
“What about the shop?”
“Minimal damage,” Apollo said. “Mostly just tore up the back door, and some of the other firefighters stayed behind to replace it for us.”
“I’m so mad,” I admitted, voice bitter now. “This is bullshit. It’s like he just knew that I was happy and wanted to ruin it. What did I ever do to deserve that?”
“Nothing, omega. None of this is your fault,” Corvin said. His Amber, orange, and smokey cedar was stronger, mixing with his anger. “Not one single moment of it is on your shoulders. This isallon him. He’s crazy, and, hopefully, today proved that you aren’t alone anymore, that you’ve got us and this entire town.”
I let out a dry laugh. “I bet he wasn’t expecting those alphas to get involved.”
“He definitely wasn’t,” Corvin agreed with a grin. “And we reached you in minutes. You don’t have to worry.”
I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I’dalwaysworry. Part of me would always wonder if Cameron would take things too far again. If he’d succeed next time.
“Good news,” Ezra said as he walked in. “It seems we get to get out of here.”
My OB was right behind him. She offered me a gentle smile.
“I hear you’re ready to go home,” she teased.
“So ready,” I agreed.
“The other doctors have already signed off. I just want to check your results,” she said, heading for the monitor that was beeping at my side, playing the baby’s heart rate. She quickly printed off the results, studying them for a moment before giving me a reassuring smile. “Well, your lungs are strong, and the baby’s heartbeat is strong. Those are exactly what I wanted to see.”
“Thank god,” I said, letting out a breath and letting some of the tension drain away.
“I recommend that you rest for the next few days. I don’t want anything to happen to you or this baby, and I’d love to see you next week to give us both a little reassurance.”
“I’ll take it easy,” I promised.
“You found a strong pack here,” she told me with a gentle smile. “I’m always reassured to see my patients having a strong support system. You’ve got a whole waiting room full out there, too.”
I glanced over at Corvin, and he just grinned.
“It seems your best friends are just as stubborn as you are,” he teased. “They refuse to leave until they know you were fine.”
