A slow menacing smile curves his lips.
“Well I’ll be fucking damned,” he crows, a little too loudly.
My attention darts to the far side of the house, fearing that his fathers will hear him.
“I knew it. I fucking knew it. We were meant to be, baby. You’re mine. All fucking mine. And now, I finally get to have you.”
His words sober me up instantly and I return one of my own sneers of disgust his way. “Over my dead fucking body,” I rasp out.
“It’s so fucking cute when you’re feisty like this. I can’t wait to put you in your place. Now be a good omega and do as your alpha tells you and come here.”
“No,” I shake my head, taking another step back. “Fuck you.”
“Oh, I’m counting on it.” His laugh is something from a nightmare.
“Ryan, what the fuck is going on?” Buck, one of his fathers, barks loudly from inside the house.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Shaking my head, I take another step back, and another, putting a bit of distance between me and Ryan.
The door opens and out walks Buck, followed by Mitch and Ricky.
“Ava? What the fuck is she doing out here? Shouldn’t you be in bed?” Ricky asks.
“We got some great news, dads,” Ryan says loudly, sounding a little drunk. “Ava here has presented. She’s an omega.”
“Oh yeah?” Mitch asks, a fucked up little twinkle in his eyes.
“Not just any omega. She’s my scent match.”
“Like fuck I am!” I shout, then turn on my heel and run.
With every bit of energy I have, I force my legs to move through the field of our backyard. If I can make it into the trees, it will be harder to find me.
Shouting sounds behind me, not of anger but of excitement.
“Go get your omega, son!” someone says followed by a round of cheers. Those sick fucks were getting amusement out of the fact their son is chasing me down.
He’s not going to let me go. Not without a fight. It’s a good thing I’m willing to give him one.
“Come on now, Ava!” Ryan shouts from behind me. “Don’t be like that. Plus, you're only making this harder on yourself. I fucking love a good chase.” His low chuckle makes me want to puke.
Lungs screaming, limbs aching I still run. I still force myself to move.
But the thing is, I’m not faster than Ryan. I manage to make it into the tree line but he’s right on my trail.
With every step I take, he gets closer and closer.
Sweat pours down my back, along my brow and hair line. I’m getting more and more drained by the second. Shoving my hand into my pocket, I wrap my hand around the switchblade and pull it free. If he catches up to me, I’m swinging blindly.
Despite my determination to save myself, to get away from these monsters, it’s not good enough.
Something large and hard slams into me, sending me crashing to the ground.
I let out a scream, the switchblade falling from my grasp as Ryan’s weight pins me to the ground.
“Get the fuck off me!” I scream, pure panic and terror flooding me.
