I didn’t realize he’d take my words so fucking literally, and now we could all lose him.

“He passed out,” Pablo says quietly. “I don’t feel pain from him anymore, but this isn’t good. Would a doctor even be able to help with this?”

“Probably not,” Silas says, helping Pablo lift Nico out of the wheelchair.

“Pablo, I’ll grab his feet. We can carry him into the house,” Verona says, leaving the door open as Pablo adjusts his grip.

“Silas is right. The scent match is active on both sides, which is why he seems to be worse now,” Easton mutters, watching as Pablo and Verona walk Nico to the bed. “I don’t want to pressure you, Rosalia, but you may need to decide sooner than later ifyou’re going to cut him loose or not. Bond sickness can cause a person to waste away, and he’s going fast.”

I deserve the pressure. I genuinely like my husband when he’s not being an asshat. The fact that he’s suffering like this really upsets me. However, do I like him enough to want to be bonded to him for the rest of our lives?

“Thank you, Easton. We’ll take it from here.”

Stepping around the wheelchair, I begin walking inside the guesthouse.

“Rosalia…”

“We got it,” I insist again, my fingertips whitening as I squeeze the wood of the door as I turn back to them. “Thank you.”

I close the door gently in their faces, wincing as I hear Nico thrash with a low moan in the bed. I’m no longer touching him, and the bond isn’t very happy with that. Walking to the bed, I push off my sleeping shorts as I walk.

Verona seems to read my determined expression, because she moves out of my way.

“Can you give me a minute with him?” I ask, climbing onto the bed. “Unless…you’re okay watching me bite him.”

“You are?” Pablo asks. “But…”

“He’s Nico,” I mutter, straddling the alpha. “I know, I know. He’s loyal, has his head up his ass when he fixates on ridiculous things, and he offered to set me free. What the fuck else am I supposed to do?”

“Well, you don’t sound like you hate him,” he chuckles.

“That’s never been the problem, Pablo. It’s always been about the lack of choices. I also hate that so much of this marriage also seems to hinge on the ability to have children. I don’t know how to be a mom, and the idea of being a baby factory fucking terrifies me. My mother tried to drown me when I was six. That’s why my father killed her. What if I suck as a mom and traumatize our kids?”

I’m working myself up, sitting on my unconscious alpha’s lap, crying about children that may never fucking happen. I’m a damn mess.

“You’re not going to suck at it because you’re aware of your own trauma,” Verona whispers. “You’re too good of a person to hurt people who don’t deserve it. Just look at your rule about not hurting children.”

“I’m still shipping the little shits out of the country,” I grumble, sniffling as I laugh.

“That’s just smart,” Pablo shrugs as he gets onto the bed to sit with me. “If we have kids, they won’t be spoiled or hateful. They’ll be tri-lingual and understand what it’s like to fight for love, because that’s how they came to be.”

Verona pulls tissues out of the box and hands them to me.

“Don’t borrow trouble, baby. We may be burning the world down, but we are not evil. Do you want to know who reminded me of that?”

“Who?” I ask.

“Nico,” she says. “I needed to, um, see something.”

“And what did you find?” I ask, laying on Nico’s body as I push his shirt up so I can touch his skin.

“It didn’t matter how much I poked the bear, he refused to flip out or bite back. Nico also told me that fighting for our own survival doesn’t make us bad people.”

“He’s right,” I sigh, my fingers shaking as I rub them over his skin. “I guess we should keep him.”

Verona smirks as she joins us on the bed, and Pablo’s arm snakes out to pull her against him. It feels right to claim Nico with them beside me. We’re creating our own pack, despite Pack Domino already being established. When you have two omegas, the omegas have the privilege of choosing who they want to mate forever with.

At least, that’s how I think it should work.
