He can’t handle how I clamp down on his dick. He lasts only a few more upward thrusts of his hips before he’s following after me.

I moan and mash my lips to his in a hard, impassioned kiss. We haven’t used protection—which is extremely irresponsible and a heat of the moment decision—but I can’t bring myself to care. I enjoy feeling him come inside me way too much.

It brings us even closer together.

Killian swears as we draw apart and pant to catch our breath. He thumbs my cheek and peers at me with hazy blue eyes. “How’s it possible to be so fucking addicted to one woman?”

“I could ask the same thing about you,” I answer, leaning in for a quick brush of our lips. “But I should probably go on the pill if we’re going to… you know.”

“We’ve got a private physician who gets us whatever we need in the clan. I’ll make you an appointment with him.”

My right brow quirks up. “Even birth control?”

“Whatever we need,” he repeats.

I don’t ask any more questions. I’ve learned the Callahan clan has insiders in every corner of the city, from cops to lawyers and even city officials.

It makes sense they’d have some doctors on their payroll too.

At the studio, we do our laundry together. Killian tends to wash while I fold. We’ve even started to cook dinner some nights, though neither of us are exactly gourmet chefs.

It’s more like Killian stands at the stove burning things while I read the recipe out loud and try not to laugh. We’ve set off the smoke detector three times thisweek alone, and our landlady, Ms. Pileggi, has already warned us to be more careful.

Killian waves the warning off and claims she always complains about things.

“If she’s not kicking out the assholes who blast their music every weekend, she won’t be giving us the boot any time soon.”

Most nights, we fall asleep together in Killian’s bed. At least when he isn’t busy with clan business. When he is, I’m still assigned babysitters from his crew. Buttonmen who stand guard outside the apartment to ensure nobody unwanted drops by.

I prefer when Killianishome, though. When we’ve turned off the lights and we lay in the dark shadows of the studio. Sometimes in content silence. Other times engaged in quiet conversation.

He tells me more about how his boxing career got started. How he was arrested after what he did to his dad and was eventually sent to juvenile hall for a year and a half.

“I got my GED,” he explains. “By the time I was out of juvie, I had no desire to go back to school. Or even home. So I scraped by on the test for it, and then started up with the clan.”

“But you were seventeen,” I say in a stunned murmur.

He nods, his arm loose around me as we lay wrapped in the bedsheet. “There was no going back. I had no interest in it. Around that time, I also took up a job at Malone’s. Cleaning the floors and wiping down the equipment. Menial shit nobody else wanted to do. But it brought in cash, and I wasn’t making much with the clan yet. I did what I had to since I was on my own.”

“I didn’t realize you’ve known Malone so long.”

“One day I started sparring with some of the other boxers, and he said I had real potential. Not just as some punk street fighter. I took him at his word and got into some underground tournaments. The rest is history.”

I whistle, impressed. “Now you’re literally about to fight the world heavyweight champion.”

The topic turns to me and my past with the Bratva. I share what feels right, and like always, Killian doesn’t push me for more than I’m comfortable with.

“I was his favorite,” I say glumly. “For years,Iwas the one he wanted most.”

Killian draws a tense breath beside me. If the lights were on, I’m sure I’d be able to see his deep scowl.

“Obviously, he considered being his favorite a good thing. I didn’t. I was just trying to survive. I was trying to keep him happy for Eva’s sake. So he would keep taking care of her.”

“What changed?”

I sigh. “Eva was getting older. I could see him starting to notice her. The way he looked at her made me sick. He decided that he… wanted her next. I couldn’t let it happen. I interfered, and he decided to punish me. He told me he would replace me with her.”

“He sent you to the cages…”
