“OK.” Two could play this game. “How about you tell me something no one knows about you?”

“Hmm, let’s see …” He stroked her back, his gaze trained on the ceiling. “I absolutely love ties. I have more ties than all my other pieces of clothing combined.”

“Really? How many?”

“I’ve lost count.”

“I’ve only seen the plain navy ones you wear for work.”

He nodded. “The others are all at my apartment. Thing is, I hardly ever get to wear them, yet I keep buying more.”

“I have the same problem with handbags.” She grinned. “I’d like to see your collection sometime.”

“Deal. Your turn.”

What was she comfortable revealing? Jannie decided to stick with the superficial clothing topic. “I hate trying on clothes. I have no patience for it, partly because I think nothing looks good on me.”

He looked at her in disbelief. “You do know you’re beautiful, right?”

She shook her head. “Honestly? I’ve never seen myself that way.”

“Then I’ll just have to help you see yourself through my eyes.”

If she had any regrets about jumping him the way she had, she was quickly losing them. Jannie snuggled closer into his warmth, pressing herself against him, her thigh over his, her cheek on his broad chest. “Your turn. And make it deeper.”

“Deeper?”

“Yeah.”

“Now, that word turns me on.”

She slapped his chest playfully. “You know what I mean.”

“OK …” He pondered for a moment. “I have the same nightmare over and over.”

“The same one?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh.”Probably about his mother.

“And when I do, it’s pretty bad.”

“Is that why you keep so many night-lights on?”

He nodded somberly. “They help.”

“What else helps?”

“Until now, nothing. But maybe …”

“Maybe?”

“Maybe if you slept with me …”

She smiled. “I just did.”

“I meant real sleep, aside from other things we can do in bed.”
