Adam pulls his eyes away from the framed napkin. That look of hurt comes back—it has a few softer notes to it than the one he masked quickly—but now that it’s directed straight at me, I can’t tell what he’s actually feeling.

Setting the frame down flat on the coffee table, he pulls my body closer to him. A hand cups my chin softly. “Mia, I couldn’t fathom a single idea—hell, a made-up fucking story—where it would be realistic to be disappointed in you.”

“You’re just saying that so I’ll put something on from that bag.”

The corners of his mouth tilt up. “The thought has crossed my mind, I won’t lie, but I mean it—you can’t control how other people feel. Any disappointment someone else could claim to feel would be wrong and most likely a reflection of their character, but I’ve seen how hard you work. How much you love it and the people there. I get you’re not saying that you are disappointed in yourself right now, but that word shouldn’t even be in your vocabulary, let alone a fear.”

My heart pounds in my chest. “What if it’s the fear that drives me? I’ve made it this far with it. I’m actually a year ahead in my ten-year plan. I wasn’t supposed to be the owner of Winedown until I was thirty-one, technically.”

“You pick something else that drives you, Mia. It’ll never compare to that one, but we’ll do a new napkin right now and put the next ten years on it.”

“I do need to make a new plan. Getting Winedown early was more because of my grandfather passing and my parents not wanting to keep the place.”

Adam’s mouth opens for what I’m sure is a rebuttal, but I cut him off. “I know I earned the right to own the restaurant, but it’s more me acknowledging the reason it all shifted. Not to mention that ten-year plan was all about my career, making smart financial moves. Yes, my parents have money, and I have more than enough on my own. But now I think my plan needs to consider other things, like marriage and kids…” I trail off as the words roll off my tongue. That might be a little too early for us to talk about.

Adam brushes a piece of my hair behind my ear. “I like those thoughts. We already established we like plans, Mia, so tell me where you see me in them and I’ll be there.”

Letting out a small breath, my whole body relaxes. “What if I see you, me, and something from that bag…” I pause, letting that hint of excitement show in his smirk. “I mean, you’d be the one wearing it, of course.”

Adam’s head tilts back with a laugh. “Fair enough.” When he looks back at me, a hand threads through my hair, brushing it softly with his fingers. “You’re so beautiful, Mia.”

They’re words I’ve heard before, but hearing them from Adam, I feel it so deeply in my soul. I feel lighter somehow, as if nothing anyone else has ever said to me or about me matters at all.

He leans in slowly and the kiss is as sweet and tender as his words, but with the thought of him being gone for the next six weeks, I want to be consumed by him.

Taking control of our kiss, I pick up the pace then slide one leg around to pull myself up on his lap to straddle him. One of his arms wraps tightly around my waist while the other grips onto the back of my head, locking me in place to deepen our kiss.

Good, seems I’m not the only one desperate for more.

He moves his mouth down my jaw while pulling my head back by my hair so he can continue to kiss down my neck. Not exactly able to move my body up and down with his arm holding me tightly, I roll my hips in slow circles.

The groan this man lets out vibrates down my spine. Kissing back up my neck, he nips at my ear. “How far do you want this to go, Mia?”

“As long as it’ll last,” I whisper. The implication of the question was for the moment we’re in, but thinking about my ten-year plan, I see a whole lot of Adam.

I keep my hips rolling slowly and start to work the buttons on his shirt. “I’d tell you to stop if I wanted you to.”

Sitting up, he lets me pull off his shirt before his hands slide under mine, lifting it right off.

“Fuck, Mia.”

His mouth is back on my skin in an instant. Kissing the apex of my chest and down my bra. He kisses my ribs, lifting my body slightly with his hands as he continues to kiss my stomach and waist before going back to my breasts. “I want to devour you.”

My hands travel over the muscles of his chest and with the size I can feel through his pants, the feeling is very mutual. Pushing off the couch, I slide my skirt off. “Take your pants off.”

Holding my eyes, Adam reaches for his belt, undoing it and the button of his trousers so torturously slow. His eyes drag down my body as he finally pulls his pants and underwear off.

Holy hell.I swipe my tongue across my lips at the sight of his dick.

This smirk comes to Adam’s face as he reaches for me to pull me back on top of him, but that plan has changed.

His fingers graze my thighs before I push him back down. “I get a taste first.”

Sinking to my knees, Adam spreads his slightly for me. I wrap one hand around his base, then wrap the other right above, and there’s still another four inches at least. “Fuck, Adam.”

“You like what you see, pretty girl?”

Is he kidding? Meeting his eyes, I hold his gaze as I lick the tip. “Very much so.”
