“Because, it just . . . I can’t stop wanting him.”

“Oh boy,” Skye grumbled. “He works for you. You’re not supposed to date your employees.”

“Technically, Andrew works for Pure Talent.”

“Semantics.”

Paige was well aware of the many reasons she shouldn’t date—or sex—Andrew. But there were many reasons why she should. The first one on the top of the pro list was that he knew her. She was comfortable sharing herself with him.

“Skye, you told me that you gave Garrett another chance because you knew him and he knew you. You knew he would never do anything to hurt you.”

“I call foul. You can’t throw my words back at me. And,news flash, Andrew did hurt you.”

“And you hurt Garrett,” Paige tossed back. “But he forgave you. Why can’t I forgive Andrew? Aside from the last several months, he’s never done anything to hurt me.”

“You told me you couldn’t trust him.”

Paige remembered the conversation she’d had with Skye only a few weeks ago. “I was angry. I didn’t mean it.” Despite the small, wary voice in her head telling her to be careful, Paige did trust Andrew. She trusted him with her career and with her life.

“This isn’t a good idea,” Skye said. “There are certain things that need to be separate. Work and love.”

“Xavier works with Zara,” Paige argued. “They’re happy.”

“Damn, damn, damn.” Skye grumbled another string of curses before she said, “I still think there’s a difference.”

“How? Zara works for X. Just like Andrew works for me—kind of.”

“How serious is it?”

“We’re just talking.” Not really talking about a relationship, though. They’d talked every day since he’d left, but not about making anything official between them. Maybe time apart had effectively doused the flame he had for her? Which would be a shame since every time she heard his voice, her heartbeat kicked up a notch.Am I skipping ahead to something he doesn’t even want?

“No sex?” Skye asked.

“You don’t need to know that.”

“You’re right. But I’m nosey.”

Paige bit down on her bottom lip, torn between sharing more and keeping her love life to herself. In the end, she decided she needed some girl talk. “No sex.”

“Okay, so you’re taking things slow? That’s better.”

“Mostly . . . slow.”

“What the hell does that even mean, Paige? Either you’re doing it or you’re not.”

“We almost did,” Paige confessed. “I wanted to. I still want to.”

“Again, I have to warn you against this. Even before this started, you were so hurt that he hadn’t been around. What happens if you do explore this and it doesn’t work out. Then you’re out an agent—and a friend.”

Standing up, Paige paced the floor. One of the things she appreciated about Skye was that the other woman had no problems telling her the truth. A lot of the people who worked with Paige were “yes” people, often only telling her what they thought she wanted to hear. Skye had never been that way. It was the reason she’d hired her. Andrew was the same way, which was why they’d worked so well together through the years.

“What if I can’t go back to how things were before?” Paige asked.

“That would suck, because Andrew is one hell of an agent.”

Skye didn’t have to tell her that. Paige knew Andrew had worked hard for her, protected her from many things that could have derailed her career. He’d gone to bat for her time and time again.

“I know you were mad at him for stepping back and letting Vonda handle the day-to-day,” Skye continued, “but if you think Vonda did anything without his approval, you’re wrong.”
