“Yes?”

“I’m really glad you came back.”

“I was always coming back,” he admitted, smoothing his hand down her back. “I just didn’t expect to end up here.”

“What did you expect?” she asked. “Things were pretty heated before you left.”

“Yes, but I thought we’d talk about what happened.”

Paige lifted her head, resting her chin on his chest so she could look at him. “What changed?”

“You in that damn nightgown.” He smirked. “I couldn’t keep my hands to myself.”

Grinning, she told him, “I wasn’t expecting company.”

Frowning, he met her gaze. “You just walk around like that when no one’s around?”

Paige shrugged. “Sometimes I like to feel sexy.”

“Sexy? You nearly killed me.”

She traced his jawline with her finger. “I’m glad. I’ve been thinking about us. There are so many reasons to not take this step.”

Andrew tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “And a lot of reasonstotake the step.”

“I thought about it while you were gone, every day. And I kept coming back to the same thing over and over. We know each other, we care for each other, and—”

“And if we’re honest with each other, this might work,” he said, finishing her thought and proving that hedidknow her.

“Right. But I don’t think we should make promises or commitments right now.”

“Let’s just see where it goes,” he said, completing yet another thought she’d had.

Nodding, she kissed his chest and climbed on top of him, straddling his legs. “Exactly.”

Andrew sat up and pulled her into a heated kiss, stealing her breath. The intense hum in her veins and his growing erection pretty much ensured that breakfast would be more like brunch. She lowered herself on him. “More,” she whispered, biting down on his shoulder. “Then food.”

“Try this.” Paige held up a forkful of vegetable lasagna.

Andrew opened his mouth and she fed him. An explosion of garlic, cheese, and green pepper made him moan out loud. Nodding, he pointed at the pan as he chewed the rest of his food.

“Good?” she asked.

He took a sip of his beer. “Delicious.”

They’d spent the last day exploring each other in various ways and Andrew couldn’t stop falling for her more and more every second, every hour. He’d realized a while ago that he had feelings for her that went beyond an agent-client relationship, or even a platonic friendship. But he was sure he felt more than simple attraction, simple adoration for her, simple desire for her.

Paige cut him a big piece and set it on a plate. “I should have made garlic bread.” She added green salad to his plate. “Or some type of bread.”

“It’s fine,” he assured her, carrying his full plate over to the table.

A moment later, she joined him. “I’m thinking I should have probably added more vegetables. It is a vegetable lasagna.”

“I can’t believe you waited until I got back to make it.”

“Well, I was making it for you in the first place. It’s your favorite. And I wanted to show you how much I improved.”
