“I wish you had.”

She paused, mouth open. Clearing her throat, she asked, “What did you want me to call you for?”

“Anything,” I admitted.

Blake let out a low laugh. “You’re good.”

“Good enough to let me take you out?”

Arching a brow, she tossed back, “To do what?”

“Anything,” I repeated.

She bit down on her bottom lip. “How do you know I’m single?”

“Technically, I don’t. But I hope you are.”

“I am. On purpose. So my answer depends on two things.”

I held her gaze. “You can set the rules of engagement…this time.”

She pointed at me. “I’m not looking for a boyfriend, so don’t go planning our wedding after one date.”

“Do men actually do that?”

Nodding, she said, “Definitely.”

Since there was no chance of me falling in love after one damn date, I agreed to that term. “Got it. Next?”

“You have to tell me where you met me.”

I laughed. “I knew that was coming.”

Blake tapped her foot against the ground. “Well?”

“Linc’s wedding.”

She gasped. “That’s…” Shaking her head, she groaned. “Dallas was right. Dammit.”

Frowning, I asked, “Who is Dallas?”

“My sister,” she grumbled. “I owe her fifty dollars now. Were you sitting at my table?”

“Yeah. Obviously, not where you wanted to be.”

“Everybody was at the other table,” she said, matter-of-factly. “And I was stuck with my cousin’s friend. Which is never fun.”

“Why?”

“Because he wanted to hook up, and I had to tell him he wasn’t my type.”

I struggled to recall the person she was talking about. Other than Blake, Ayana, and two of my middle school teachers, I didn’t remember anyone else at the table.

She snapped her fingers. “Now I remember. You had a girlfriend and that automatically made you off limits, which also made you forgettable. Plus, if I recall, she didn’t like me.”

Ayana’s shitty attitude had started many arguments throughout our relationship. “She’s not a factor.”

“Good. Okay, then.”
